If the Rockets were in the playoff now and decided to wear the "Los Rockets" jerseys like the Suns did, what effect, if any, would it have on your desire to root for the team?
I'd personally think its stupid and they should stick to playing basketball and not getting involved with politics.
More of a D&D kind of topic but I don't want to see national or state politics of any kind in sports. Sports should be an escape from that sort of stuff. my .02
I will root for the Rockets no matter what, I guess I would be proud of the organization for taking a stand on what they believe is right.
Don't care, the law affects me one way or other. I love sports, I hate politics....I would ignore it just the same.
i think its a pretty stupid idea. if your going to honor a culture, you will have to honor all the cultures that have become part of the nba. this is a gimmick by the nba to create interest among spanish speaking fans / countries. it's almost as bad as the blaxploitation movies of the early 70's lol. i'm not calling it blacula just yet, but its on the same line of exploitation. if the rockets ever were dumb enough to fall victim to such a train of thought then i would just be embarrassed.
If you root for the Rockets because they have Los Rockets on the jersey than you are not a rockets fan or basketball fan. Does not make any sense at all. Anyways shouldn't it be "los cohetes," another thing that does not make sense.
What if what they believe is right is not a popular stance? Would you be proud of them for standing up for their beliefs or would you be proud of them for standing up for their beliefs as long as their beliefs agree with yours?
You wouldn't translate the name Rockets because the name is "Rockets" in any language. I don't know for a fact or anything but I could only guess in China when they refer to the Rockets they don't translate it into Mandarin, they actually say "Rockets." Also, both local Spanish channels say "Los Rockets."
No. It's "Rockets" in any ****ing language. Just like the other poster said, when univision does the sports report they say "Los Rockets"
Really wouldn't bother me or make me more proud of the organization itself. I'll root for the Rockets either way. They're my team and have been for the past 15 or so years and nothing will change that. Also, its not like they are wearing a patch on their jersey's saying "Down with the Immigration Bill!" They are just adding a Los next to their team name. Would I be offended if their jersey says, "Los Rockets" if that means "The Rockets", no, thats just plain stupid. I think that sports and politics shouldn't mix, but that would mean that I would be a total hipocrite. When Obama was running for President, I actually liked the idea of certain players like LeBron or Shaq or Dwight Howard voicing their opinions on supporting him for presidency. I think that at the end of the day, sports figures influence alot of what people think or do, while to other people, sports figures don't really change or influence other people's stances. I will commend what Robert Sarver is doing by taking a stand on this bogus immigration bill, and I would commend Les Alexander the same, but I don't see Les being the type of owner that would take a stand on these types of issues, IMO.
