If it's like the pay'd version. I played that back when it was in beta testing. It was fun. I just stopped playing it only because I am against having to pay monthly for a game. (anti xbox live....mmorpg fees...etc.)

Definetly. I wonder if my old account still exists....I couldn't use my user name....which I seriously doubt someone else has. If they do...wow.

Let me know your name...and I'll add you when I have it running.

3hrs left on the download....10,448MB LOL.

Haha yeah mine is taking a while to, but I should be on in the next 15 minutes.

I think I might have some old stuff on there, but I am just going to start fresh.

    Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves or Men?

    This reminds of Clerks 2.

do we have to choose a server? Make sure you choose a good one...and let us know which one.

I'll have to look at it to decide which race.

    I feel like a nerd. :p

Never tried it, but will check it out, thanks. Only at 550 KB/s :(

One indirect benefit of paid-to-play is a better overall gameplay environment.

    Ya, I'm only getting 580-790Kbps....bah.

True. But I just can't justify paying a monthly fee that ends up making 1 game cost potentially over $100.

I have the discs and this is taking forever to download... About a million updates...

I am starting to get a bit worried about what is "Free" exactly...

"Join the world's greatest fellowship of players in the award-winning online re-creation of J. R. R. Tolkien's legendary Middle-earth. In the Lord of the Rings Onlineā„¢, adventure through Middle-earth as you have never seen it before, battle and win glory against the ravenous hordes of the Dark Lord Sauron, and forge your own legend in the epic story of the War of the Ring. And you can do it all without paying a thing with LOTRO Free-to-Play! Free-to-Play opens the door to adventure so you can play your way without a subscription or even a credit card. Earn free Turbine Points as you adventure in the massive world of Middle-earth, and spend them in the LOTRO Store to access hundreds of items, expansion packs, premium content, character customization, and more! And you may also purchase Turbine Points in the LOTRO Store whenever you choose. The legend is yours, and the adventure is free!

Anyone can join the game for free as a Free player when LOTRO Free-to-Play is available. You will automatically be upgraded from Free player to Premium player status with your first purchase of Turbine Points in the LOTRO Store.

And for a monthly fee, LOTRO's VIP program offers the best value and the most options for players who like the convenience of having unlimited access to all of LOTRO's game content and features."

I bought the game a couple years ago, and played it for a month. Am I a premium player?

So is everyone doing the "Free player" content? Not premium or vip right?

it's free but there's some sort of cash shop feature, certain things are only available through the cash shop. fairly standard stuff.

I'm Premium because I paid 20 bucks for the game a while back...

Basically, the further you get, you might have to pay to unlock later quests in new areas. It's still a great deal. It says that you can actually build up points and get this stuff without spending a dime, but it would take some MMO style grinding...
