Man, some people are gifted with the talent for exaggeration....

Keyshawn is one person. He won't be playing on the offensive line blocking for the quarterback. He won't be gaining very many yards rushing the ball. He won't throw for many yards either. I doubt the Bucs will ask him to return kick offs or punts. And he dang sure won't be playing any defense.

The Buccaneers still have a very young and inexperienced QB. And a running game that didn't produce. Keyshawn may help open up the running game by stretching the defense, and he will definitely help their passing threat. But, do you know if they have lost any key players? Any O-linemen, any of their stellar defensive players? I don't, but at least look into it, before handing them a Super Bowl ring.

    Dreamer,

I think Tampa is the best organization in football right now.

They only lost Nickerson on defense but replaced him with a younger, more athletic player in Jamie Duncan and also have with possibly the best linebacker in Derrick Brooks. They also stole both of Minnesotas best offensive tackles who have been to numerous pro-bowls in Jeff Christy and Randall McDaniel. Now they signed Johnson. The only thing to worry is the quarterback and his ability to grow into a good one. Other than that, that big time defense shouldn't need more than 20 points. They are poised for dynasty because they are also very young.

I am really becoming a Bucs fan for the simple fact that they play the type of hard hitting defense that I just love. They remind me so much of the Eagles in the beginning when they had Reggie White. That Monday Night game they played in 1991 against the Oilers when they won 13-7 is one of my favorite games of all time for the simple fact that they were smacking the crap out of each other on defense.

I dont think the Bucs have it wrapped up yet. Keyshawn is going to die in Buccarooville with constant doubling. The kind he didnt really face with the talented corp of recieving they had in NY. Their QB seens real poised and all, but didnt seem able to put points on the board. The signing of McDaniel in my humble opinion was a bad one. He was on his last legs last year.

ANd Dreamer was right. Their running attack is pitiful. Way, way overrated. Now I think they'll go a ways and all, but still arent quite there yet.

I may sound biased, but I firmly believe the Skins and Rams are the top two teams in the NFC. The skins picked up Bruce Smith. And anyone who follows the skins knows that the Reason Stubby and Wilkinson dont put up big numbers is that the skins have no, and I mean no pash rush coming from defensive ends and linebackers, causing them to be doubled all game long. And with the 2nd and 3rd pick in the draft, they are going to beable to garner at least one of the penn State stars of Courtney, or Lavarr. Add a super star tackle in Chris Samuels. And the Skins are solid. They also signed a 3 time probowler safety in Mark Carrier, and a 3 time thousand yard rusher in Adrian Murrell. And to top it off, they have a super sub at QB with Jeff George at QB, and they claim they have enough room to sign Deion if they want to. Which Dan Snyder says he does.

So let me know. Am I being a little biased in thinking the skins made all the right moves to be the top Super bowl Contender?

Skins made all the rite moves.

Bucs should have made a blockbuster trade for a decent quarterback, not a wide reciever. Now Keyshaawn has no one to pass the damn ball to him ... [IMG]

Rams and Skins ARE creme of the crop in NFC.

and rite now, Redskins look the best, on paper anyways.

Redskins are my NFC super bowl pick. The Bucs have made some good moves, but the Redskins are really looking good. Barring injury, they are on their way.

The Bucs just need to get Steve Young to play one last season with them. I am not a believer in Shaun King, the guy just isn't very accurate, even a rookie should be accurate. The Bucs are by far the best team in the league outside of the QB position after this trade, they will be very, very, tough even with a weak QB. They would be my superbowl favorites. Besides the Rams will be one and done, their miracle and miraculously easy schedule won't duplicate.

The Skins aren't going anywhere. Despite their gobs of talented individuals--they are still just a bunch of pigs (or do they call them Hogs??) guided by a hapless coach. And of course, they still can't beat them Cowboys!! Go Cowboys!!

On paper I have to agree that the Redskins look very, very good!

I am still not sold if the Rams are the real deal.

I think K. Johnson will be a huge help for the Bucs. Agree with the other comments that it will be tough for them to win with such a young inexperienced QB.

But lets not forget the AFC. In particular the Titans. I think they are a young team on the rise! They came up one yard short last year and I think that will drive them to be that much better this year. I really think they have a great team built around Eddie George, Steve McNair and their tight ends. They are most likely going to sign Ben Coates to go along with Wycheck at the other tight end position. They have a solid defense centered around the Freak and an excellent coach in Fischer. They are my pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl!

I think the Rams are the real deal.

But, I'm biased. Fred Miller went to my highschool and played at the same time as my two brothers. He was a tall skinny kid back then... But, dangit if a superbowl ring for your highschool ain't cool. (I played too, so even more bias)

    Defense wins championships.

Tampa BY FAR AND AWAY have the best defense in the NFL and probably the best since the Giants of 1986.

They just need to score 20 points. If they averaged around 16 last year, Keyshawn is worth 4 points.

Redskins play defense like Walt Williams. The Rams would be stupid to think that they did not luck out of that alley ass whoopin they took from the Bucs. When they play this year, intimidation will be a big factor and the Bucs psychologically whooped up on the Rams last year. One lucky play(although a hell of a play)away from seeing Tampa beat them.

You guys might be right about the offense. But the defense is still young, fast, aggressive and hard hitting. They will win next year.

    uhm, Almu,

I disagree. Bucs have great D, but they need to get much better offensively if they are gonna win the championship. Keyshawn does not automatically spot a team 4 pts a game. If Shaun King plays great, and not like the true scrub that he is, then the Bucs should go far. But a team needs to be able to score to win too.

Redskins didnt have a very good defense last year. In fact, if memory serves, it was one of the worst. BUT. They added Bruce Smith. They have two of the best cornerbacks in the business. They mite add Deion to the mix. They picked up Levarr Arrington. They also helped to solidify their o-line with that Sam Adams guy.

AND they still have their offense intact from last year. The redskins are ready to make a run.

BTW I thought that the Rams should have let loose on the Bucs, but Vermiel is a lousy coach. What was with all that crappy conservative play calling? Going into the game, I was rooting for the Rams, but came away hating them. I hate cheap wins such as the Tennesee "miracle" and that stupid last minute touchdown pass in that Bucs game.

If Defense wins Titles in Football...

Then your last 8 or so winners were all offensively superior teams.

The Rams were a better than average defensive team.

    The Broncs, maybe average.

    Same with the Pack.

Dallas has a strong case, but I believe it was there great balance on O that won those titles.

The Skins of 92 were a pretty solid defensive team up and down, but were still an offensive minded team.

Im not buying into the defense wins titles, in the NFL.

For as lousy as the Skins D was last year, the Bucs needed the skins to not have Steven Davis in the game, the Skins to fumble twice late, and a botched last second field goal attempt to win. And still only got 14 points off of Redskins turnovers.

Signing Carrier, Smith, and Arrington should cure alot of what ailed them at D last year. Add Deion, and the skins will have the one of the top D's in the league next year.

I still see this as a two dog race between the Rams and Skins.

    Dreamshake,

Defense does win championships. But, outscoring the opponent wins every game.

Of course you have to have a decent offense to win. But, I think most people will agree that a great defense will usually beat a great offense. I said usually not always, but if you're building a team you probably want to go with the odds.

The Rams had one of the highest ranked defenses in the NFL last season. Just because no one ever heard of them doesn't mean they weren't good. No, they weren't great. But, with a great offense you only need a good defense to win most of the time, and I think the Rams had more than just a "good" defense.

Teams with 'great' defenses that have won the Superbowl in the past 15 years or so:

    N.Y. Giants
    Washington Redskins
S.F. 49ers (But, they had a great offense too)
    Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos (Maybe the weakest of the bunch, but still in good company)

It's very rare to have a "great" defense and a "great" offense. But, a team has to choose which direction is wants to go. Usually that direction is dictated by the players a team has, but then using free agency and the draft can dictate which type of players they get.

Dreamer...I believe the Rams had the 9th ranked D in the league last year. Like I said. Not too bad, but not a superior squad.

Id venture to wager that there have been many more NFL champs that were superior offensive teams (in comparision to their D) than Superior defensive teams. The only truely superior defensive teams that had little or maybe better than average offenses are probably the 85 Bears, and the 86 and 90 Giants (which Thurman Thomas tore through the Gmen during the superbowl that year, I believe he had over 200 total yards).

The 49ers have always been an offensively focused team, and won with average defenses.

Not sure which Redskins team your refering too. In the 82's they set the record for most points scored in a season. In 87 they broke about a kazillion offensive records during the superbowl. And in 92 it was 3 1000 yard recievers, a probowl QB and a good rushing attack that got them their.

Dallas makes for a strong point, but I still believe that Dallas without their O in the 90's flounders much, much more than Dallas without their D in the early 90's.

No one can argue with Tampa's D last year or the three previous years, yet they have no superbowl apperances to show for it, and only one Title game. The Giants have a super Defense, but dont go anywhere due to their lack of offense.

I believe that the NFL is the one backwards league that does not support the old addage of "defense wins".

    Well, Hutzy...

I gotta root for someone since this is the only team I have liked since the freakin Oilers up and left Houston.

    Now...

Let me say that I hate the Rams. That end zone dancing got on my nerves.

You guys make alot of valid points about the Bucs. They are not a sure thing. But, I would go to war against anybody with that defense. During the Ram game last year, every time Faulk caught a pass, Tampa was the only team the whole year to tackle him on the first try each and every time.

Yes, offensive has been the way of the NFL. But, Tampa shut down almost every team last year and the Redskin game shouldn't even be close if Tampa had anything resembling an offense last year.

Like I said, I prefer defense each and every time. The Redskins should be really good. But I just don't see how anyone can score on Tampa. If the score 20 points, they are going to go 14-2.

By the way, I love the Bucs coach. To me, he is a class act all the way.
