You're not going to believe this, but as I'm typing we just got hit with the 2nd earthquake in the last 3 days!!!! NO f'n joke. Of course, the present one is only a fraction of the one we had Monday night at 11:56PM, which measured 6.7 on the Richter. Monday's quake shook the hotel violently for more than a minute, which was totally badass, even moreso since I'm on the 17th floor. I'll admit though that I was a bit scared at first, but I looked out the window and people were still walking around outside, so I didn't see any cause for concern. http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/11/08/taiwan.quake.ap/index.html http://sg.news.yahoo.com/041109/1/3od81.html So aside from the earthquakes things have been totally hectic for me over here. We have supplier audit meetings from like 9AM - 6PM, where my team harasses scrutinizes their design process for 8+ consectutive hours. They follow it up by taking us out to dinner, which is a huge production over here. We'll go to some fancy place and by the time we get back to the hotel it's well after 9PM. I'm so ready to get home. Too bad we're not even 1/4th of the way done. Here's a sample of some of the things I've eaten the last few days: shark fin soup, lotus root, giant shrimp, pigeon, frog legs, and fried minnows. Anyways, Tapei is an amazing city that really comes alive at night. I'll have to give another update next Sunday from Hong Kong
Am I the only one that noticed that Baqui brought back the "Looks like" thread title? We missed you "Looks like" and I can't wait to find and excuse to use you.
Go visit the National Palace Museum. One of the best in the world. They probably have 90% of China's art collection there. It's free admission to foreign passport holders. Can't beat that. http://www.npm.gov.tw/
I was there in the spring of 2003. Great city. We also went to the beaches of Kenting on the south end of Taiwan, beautiful. Just don't get run over by the scooters!
heh, I've been working in Taipei for over a year and a half by now. The one on Monday was definitely the longest earthquake I've experienced. Normally by the time you realize what's going on, it's almost over. No real time to wonder wtf. Actually, I think there have been 3 this week, another one in addition to the two mentioned. I didn't feel the second one mentiond by Baqui though.
I don't think it's that ... I almost ordered it in a restaurant in Austin a couple weeks ago, but opted for the crab meat/fish maw soup instead. The shark fin was only like 10 bucks I think. I definitely want to try it now though.
