He drove us around for 6-8 hours (Christ statue, Sugarloaf, Soccer Stadium, Carnivale location and various other places) and I think he charged around $200 USD for the day. I assume he is still there.
You should see if your friends etc know anybody there - it's a much more manageable and enjoyable city with local help than trying to deal with everything on your own.
Do not carry stuff you buy back to the hotel. Either take a Taxi or have the vendor send it the the hotel for you.
