...for a deposition on June 1. I'll have one...maybe two...nights there to see the town a little bit. Any suggestions? You all know I'm a huge Revolutionary War buff... Damn it...the Red Sox are out of town! That really bums me out. I'm seriously considering requesting opposing counsel to reschedule the deposition for when the Red Sox are in town!
i can't go to a bar by myself...i can go to movies by myself (when my wife is out of town)..i can go eat by myself (particularly lunch)..i can go to movies by myself (particularly when i'm escaping work!)...but I can't go to a bar by myself.
Can't go to a bar alone??? Don't you want to rate your "box office appeal" if you catch my drift? I'm kidding of course.
Thanks, Clutch...that is helpful! Also...my deposition is in Canton on Monday June 2. I'll arrive in Boston on the 1st. What's traffic like between the two..if anyone knows!! Would I do better staying in Boston or in Canton??? Of course, I'll be flying into Boston. It's 26 miles away, best I can tell from MapQuest. But I have no idea what traffic is like there. I am SO disappointed the Sox aren't in town. Really..probably my 2nd favorite team in all of baseball. That's such a disappointment. I've always wanted to go to a Sox game at Fenway.
I read the thread and Clutch is right on.. The North End is a great place! If you're into revolutionary war stuff, the Old North Church is there. That's where Paul Revere watched and saw the Redcoats a'comin' (one if by land, two if by see).. I've also heard that Legal Seafoods is great! I'd go see a ballgame too.. I'll be moving there in August and I'm so anxious to see a game at Fenway!! Good luck man!
I grew up mostly in Boston and yes, there is a ton to do there. I really enjoyed following the Paul Revere path on field trips - there are quite a number of historical places to visit along the path and the city is small enough that you can catch other historical markers within blocks of the path. I would recommend checking out Haymarket if you'll be there on a market day. I love food and shopping for food and this open-air market is the closest I've seen in the States to the European markets. You get people yelling at you and cut rate prices at the end of the day. Spend some time in Harvard Square, go to Legal Seafood, go to the art museums. Stroll along Memorial Drive (on the Cambridge side of the Charles River) if you'll be there on a Sunday. They close the drive to traffic every Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day and there are always a ton of people there and often art festivals.
Traffic will be bad. Stay near Canton if you can. At night you can drive to a T-stop terminal with parking and T into town.
cool...public transportation is a whole different animal there, huh? pretty safe? even at night? i'm assuming T-stop terminal means rail?
I've only been to Boston for one week, this past February, but we drove the whole time and had no problems. We actually drove in from Providence each day (around 9-10am) and never got stuck in any traffic jams.. We must've been lucky, I guess because everyone told me to expect horrible traffic.
Don't drive in Boston if it can be avoided. Take the T. I started taking the T alone when I was about 9 and my parents didn't worry about me taking it near midnight when I was about 12. I'd say that's pretty safe.
Legal Seafood is good but its a chain in Boston. For a better dining experience, I'd go to Anthony's Pier 4. Since you will be in Canton, I'd recommend going to the Wayside Inn for dinner. It's the oldest operating Inn in the US and is the subject of Henry Longfellow's Tales of the Wayside Inn. It's Sudbury so probably 45 minutes to 1 hour away from Canton if you don't go during rush hour.
The Ted Williams tunnel and connector has been completed. IT's now a breeze to get out of the airport and on to the Mass Pike (I-90) which is what MadMax would do. Edit: The T=Train and is Boston's rail system. It's pretty easy to use. From Canton you could drive to the red line in Quincy (don't know about parking or how safe it is there) or to the Green Line in Newton ( there is parking at Riverside station and it is very safe ). You could also take commuter rail from Westwood which is next to Canton but I don't know when the last outbound train leaves.
Yes. It goes above and below ground and will take you within walking distance of all of the major places to go in Boston, and Cambridge. It goes into a lot of the suburbs but you'd have to take a bus from there.
Yah...it's been several years since I've been. Last time I drove through Boston, it was during the big dig and in morning rush hour traffic. It wasn't fun. Speaking of Ted Williams, he went fishing with my Grandfather on my Grandfather's boat. My Grandfather owned a machine shop in New Bedford, and he sort of "knew" everyone it seems. I wish I would have known him (my Grandfather) before he died, but unfortunately, I never knew any of my grandparents.
