Well, I finally had to decide whether or not to take the job transfer to Oklahoma. I really had a tough time with the decision, but in the end I've opted to stay in Houston. This means that I will need to start looking pretty hard for a new job, since this one could be ending in the next month or so. The bad thing is that I work in the IT field, so jobs are pretty hard to come by these days. I'm hoping that with my experience and background I will be able to land something without too much down time. I remember a while back there was a thread going for people out of work. Just wondering what outlets seemed to work the best these days for finding a job....whether it be friends, classifieds, job boards, etc. And if anyone knows of any openings at your company for a Network/Server/Infrastructure/Web support tech, be sure to let me know!
and if ya know of two jobs like that...let ME know! damn man...thats harsh...the job market is still suckuing right now for guys like us...but hopefully your experience will make the diffeence and you wont be out of work for long. glad you're staying around tho...cya at the next pickup game.
There is a low end desktop position available now at the college where I work, but it is extremely low pay. http://www.gc.edu/personnel/classified.html
I sat at home for 4 months before I went to Indy. Now I am in Charlotte. The pay is awesome and I actually like living in different places but Mrs. Baiter isnt too happy about the idea of moving around. Hopefully we can stay here for a while since it seems to be pretty nice. If you guys like, I can forward your resumes to the consulting firm that I work for. It is a privately held company and have bent over backwards to make things work. The pay is on the high end and they even put in writing 4 weeks of bench time at full pay if something happens to this contract. They were willing to fly me home every weekend if I didnt want to move here, at a slightly lower pay rate, and pay my expenses while I am here. This is by far the best experience with a consulting firm that I have had.
Thanks guys for the info. It's a really scary time with the market the way it is, but I just have to keep hope that something good will come along. R2k, how long have you been looking for something? The only positive thing is that I am a full-time consultant with my contract company, so once this position ends I will still be getting bench pay for at least a few weeks while they try to find something else. I had a contract end in late 2001 and they were able to keep me around, so hopefully I will get through this ok too. Master, I would definetly like to hear more about this company you are with. Shoot me an email and I can see about getting my resume to you Tray_Harrison@hotmail.com . I'm not totally against moving for a job....I'm just against moving to Oklahoma for a job. Thanks!
