Bye Frye: Browns deal quarterback to Seahawks

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade starting quarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks. Terms of the deal have yet to be made public.

Frye, who won an open competition over Derek Anderson during the preseason for the starting job, didn't last a single game as the Browns' 2007 starter. He was yanked with 6:34 remaining in the second quarter of the Steelers' 34-7 rout of the Browns. By then, he had gone 4-of-10 for 34 yards, thrown an interception and been sacked five times for a quarterback rating of 10.0.

Frye, in his third year, has completed 354 of 568 passes for 3,490 yards, 14 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

Anderson was only slightly better than Frye, going 13-of-28 for 184 yards, opening the possibility that rookie Brady Quinn could see the field sooner than had been exepected.

I'm a diehard Browns fan, and I have to say I'm shocked. Not that Frye was any good, but pretty funny that we traded him like he was dead weight.

I'd like to see Quinn start just because it doesn't matter and Quinn could be our future. By the same token, throwing him behind our line and into the fire may hurt more than help in his early development. I hope he's one of those guys who immediately takes to the NFL game. That said, I don't give many qb's a chance at looking good on our team.

Brady better be ready for some rough games. Even the best like Manning had it rough in the beginning.

Yep and Quinn is going to be facing some pretty tough defenses in the next handful of games

Before last season, wasn't Frye supposed to be the QB of the Future?

Either way, Cleveland will have a new coach by next season. I like Crennel, but the results have been terrible and someone has to take the fall

I never thought Frye would amount to anything. Crennel is definitely a goner. I feel for Browns fans but it appears the suffering will continue for a while. Maybe Cowher rides in to the rescue next season.

As a Texan fan, this scenario sounds eerily familiar...

God speed, Brady Quinn. God speed.

Here's hoping for a Browns 0-16 season which will equal a Cowboys first overall pick in '08!

Derek Anderson or whatever his name is will start now but will be on an incredibly short leash. It's a tough position to be in when the end result is clear: get Brady Quinn on the field.

Regardless of who starts though, you can bank on those AFC North defenses to be licking their chops just as my Steelers were when they pummelled them this past week.

Don't bet on it. Cowher is going to coach the Cowboys next year, from what I hear.

Who did you hear this from? Cowher and Jerry Jones do not seem to make a good match. I think the notion is crazy, especially since the Cowboys are likely to have a good season. Firing a coach after one year, especially a 10-6, 11-5 year is nutso even for Jerry.

PLEASE don't make up stuff. I'm in the media and that's not even being discussed.
