Thanks to good ole Danny boy, the Rockets have a hole in the middle and 2 question marks at the backcourt. While it might be too late to do anything to fill up those holes, (we have to see if Moochie ups with us, and if Shanon wants in or not) perhaps we should not be too optimistic about next season after all.
The initial big hopes, Webber alongside Dream, have been flushed down the sewage. I'm being practical by saying that the Rockets have taken a step back from last season, and unless Griffen can pull some stunts on the court, we're looking at lottery again next June. Instead, moving on, maybe we can start anticipating something beyond next season.. Duncan anyone?

ps. Great new BBS Clutch. Kudos to you and the rest!

If we can land a short term big man to start ahead of Cato, then we've taken two steps foreward and only one step back.

Griffin is the real deal, he just needs to bulk up (the Rox trainers will see to that). An interim solution would fit with a Marc Jackson-type player (why am I even typing "type") until 2003.

I as well see a Duncan in the Rockets future. ;)

As far as this offseason goes, we expected more. All of us. But Demons happen. Still, I think in future years we'll look at this as the year that we landed Eddie Griffin. And who knows how that future #1/#2 will be used? CD/Rudy is notorious around the league for finding diamonds in the rough...

To cut it short, tho, as long as we get a serviceable big man (which the trade exception helps immensely to do), we still got EG out of this summer.

Would adding Jelani McCoy or Marc Jackson improve Rockets' chance to reach the Western finals?

    Not likely.

Instead of pursuing the abovementioned, and also resigning Maurice Taylor, the Rockets should just save the money they would have used to resign Hakeem, and wait till Tim Duncan is available.

Resigning Taylor certainly will not mean increasing the chances of helping the Rockets reach the Western finals.

    Rudy T blew it.

CD sounded like he did not have a clue about the middle. I am unimpressed with his performance this summer with the biggest cap room.

The Rockets brass have clearly been caught with their pants down with this whole "Dream" thing. That's the thing that has me more angry than anything.

We spent time screwing around with this mess when we should have been players in the free agent market. Mohammed, Booth, Hayward were all deals we could have possibly been in on. Both Jackson and McCoy are unproved and undersized. Now we are faced with having to pick from the scraps or taking on bad contracts to get a Dale Davis or Raef LaFrentz
