Well after watching TV on my 27 inch Sony for the past 6 years, I've decided it's time to take the plunge and buy a real set. I know there was a topic a few months ago about TV's, so hopefully you guys can help me out. I'm trying to keep my budget to around $2,000, but might be willing to go a bit higher if needed. Maximum size I would want to go is around 50 inches. I would also like to have HD, but I know that most TV's just come HD ready. I have DirecTV, so it sounds like I would have to buy an HD reciever to go along with it. Also, I've seen that Sony and Toshiba have some tv's now that have the hd tuner already built in, so that is another option. Any advice on what models to look at, where to shop, etc is appreciated.
SAM'S has good prices on TVs. I couldn't tell you what to get though -- the TV you're giving up is probably better than my current set.
Got my Sony 46'' HDTV for about 1500 from www.onecall.com Don't get a tuner built in, that's a waste of money. A decoder comes with cable service for like 5 extra bucks.
I've actually been looking at a 46" Sony that BestBuy has right now. Is this the same set? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...50442&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03005
Samsung 50" DLP is the way to go (56" or 61" if you have the money) The HLP is coming out in June though. You may want to wait.
Anybody know of any really good websites where people discuss AV topics? I need to start getting into this. I'm buying a new house and one of the floorplans I'm looking at is a 1.5 story where the entire 2nd floor can be a media room (about a 20x20 room).
I am looking to get a 27" for my room, my little 15" in my room broke, and have been out of a tv in my room for a couple months now, anyone know where i can find a good deal in a 27" tv?
Yeah that's the one. It's worked great for me. I'm still debating calibrating it by Avia. Anybody have exp with them?
I have heard great things about the Digital Video Essentails disc but have not used it personally. Its supposed to be especailly useful for CRT RPTV's.
I think the DLP's are a bit out of my price range. My wife really wants to go for one of the Sony Grand Wega's , but the 42" will run me around $2,400. Don't really think I want to spend that much. What about cables? Are the Monster cables really necessary?
Upgrades in the HLP include: -HDMI + DVI inputs (2 Digital video inputs!!!) -All three component inputs take the complete range of resolutions (fixes an issue in the 2003 models) - Color wheel: The Pedestal and Tantus (HD2+) models will have the new and highly desirable seven segment color wheel. -8000 Hour 100-Watt User Replaceable Lamp -Optional HDTV Tuner -HD Fine Pitch Screen (0.155 mm) -Discreet IR code operation
Dude, go with a front projector and a screen. I know when I buy a house, I'm turning the master bedroom into a media room. God I can't wait!
My wife bought a Panasonic widescreen HD-ready 57" for $1650 at Conn's. I love the picture and the price was WAY right.
I like Monster cable for audio, but I haven't really noticed that much of a difference on the video cables. That being said, I have Monster (or better) on mine because I just couldn't see paying over $1500 for a TV and using $2 cables to hook it up.
My wife and I made a deal... We got the TV on credit and it counts for ALL of the presents that we would normally buy for each other throughout the year (anniversary, birthday, Christmas, Valentines, steak and bj day, etc.). The only thing we buy on those days are cards. Worked for me.
