I'm going to buy a HDTV this weekend. I'm leaning towards the LCD technology, but I might go plasma if I find a deal. With my price range ($800 - $1000) I'm thinking 37" is the best I could hope for. So, how much does that effect which technology is best, and how much does that effect whether or not I should get a 1080p or a 720p? Does anyone know of any great deals out there right now? I did a quick web search of Fry's, Best Buy and Walmart a little while ago and didn't see anything that blew me away.
You can also look at DLP's. You can get a bigger screen and still have an excellent picture. They are slim but certainly not as thin as an lcd or a plasma. Samsung makes some quality ones.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3334041&Sku=V25-4222 Its a 42 inch Vizio with 1080p for $800. Not the greatest contrast ratio, but a good deal regardless. EDIT: Nevermind, thats refurbished...will look for a good deal for you.
will this be your main tv? i'd personally would skip the 1080p if you are getting a tv that small. you wouldn't tell the difference. for plasma, panasonic is a good value for lcd, samsung is a good value tigerdirect, crutchfield, and onecall are good choices for online vendors.
I've been REALLY, REALLY, REALLY happy with my 42 inch Westinghouse LCD I got on sale at Best Buy. I got an open-box one for only $850. It was like $970 when it was on sale. The Waterfall cabling is the greatest thing ever.
Check out Walmart.com They have a polaroid 42 inch with 1080p for $948. My girlfriend has a 19 inch polaroid and ive been very impressed with it. Cant seem to find a great deal for a 37 in.
refurbs are not that bad, it depends on company. i've bought refurb Sony and Apple and Philips. all work great.
I probably would be cool with a refurb. DLP I am definitely NOT cool with since I understand there is a bulb in those TVs that requires replacing every 3 years or so, and those things can cost a bundle. I'm not looking for a regular maintenance cost on a TV I buy. After I get it, the only thing I should be paying for to run that thing is the electricity it needs to stay powered on. As for these places like tigerdirect.com...how do they ship them to you? I am very leery of ordering a large, expensive piece of equipment like that through the mail. I had pretty much decided I would go to Fry's, Best Buy and Circuit City this weekend (maybe some other places I haven't thought of yet) and go with the best deal I can find.
I always buy from Conn's if I buy from a brick&mortar store. They have good customer service, they price match, and they're based in Texas.
I have 4 friends that have ordered TV's from tigerdirect over the last year. Although I do not know the details behind how it was shipped, I do know that it was delivered in a timely manner and no problems were encountered with the product. Everything came out clean.
tiger is great. i buy from them all the time. there are advantages and disadvantages for all types of TVs. the DLPs are still a much better deal for price per size and picture quality. the newer DLPs use LEDs instead of bulbs so you get 60,000 hrs out of it. i have one of those tvs with bulbs, my picture quality is awesome and replacing a bulb (haven't done it yet) is easy as replacing any light bulb.
If your getting an HD-1080, make sure its at least 50 inches. If below, you fine with the HD-700 something pixels. ps. config the TV once you set it up like contrast and colour setting stuff, the stock doesn't look that good typically.
I would buy online, the TV you are buying is really not that big so I wouldn't worry at all about it being damaged. plus you are insured and its worth not paying the $80 in taxes. here's my recommendation: http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=86540 it comes with 3 day fed-ex delivery. great brand and quality. (Toshiba)
After getting great advice from posters here I ordered my TV from Amazon.com. It is a 40” and I didn’t have any issues with the shipment.
i never thought about the aspect of not paying for taxes when you buy online (i feel dumb) i guess that usually saves you a lot of money wether it be a digital camera, tv, or laptop.
Is this a refurbished one? Is a warranty available for something like this? I like that the shipping and tax are nada on that deal you posted, but I really did want a warranty (I know...typically they are considered a waste of money) just for peace of mind since I am unfamiliar with all these new technologies.
