I know this is ridiculous, but my brother wants to get the new iMAC to play SC2, since we do not have a desktop in the house.

    The specs are:
    27-inch Screen: 2.8GHz
    2.8GHz Intel Core i5
    2560-by-1440 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB

I know MACS tend to be overpriced, so I was wondering how much a PC with those specs would cost?

a lot less. If your buying a computer for gaming purposes, then its pretty stupid to get a mac. You can probably find a pc that can run your game fine for around $700-900...mabye?..dont know pc's too well. that mac looks like its $1,500-1,700+, especially w/ a 1TB Hd

i just bought all the parts for my desktop which i think will be very similar to what your brother is looking for (i5,4gb ddr3, gtx260 vid card) and it ran me about $500 i think before the monitor, hdd, and dvd drive.

    Quick breakdown of some prices:

    i5: ~$200
    hd5750: $140
    ram: $75
    motherboard: $65+
    power supply: $40+
    case: $30+
    fans/heatsinks: $30+
    1tb hdd: $60

the dvd drive should be relatively cheap and im not really following the monitor pricing but yeah

Just as long as your p*rn runs smoothly, who cares. Buy a 360 instead.

If you're buying a computer for gaming, always go PC. It's cheaper and more compatible. I would build one if I were you, it's not very hard to buy the parts and build a great gaming pc for cheap.

I'm doubting this is totally equivalent, and the monitor is included on an iMac, but I'm with whoever said that if you're getting it to game, it's probably not going to be the most applicable machine or most economical even if you did match it spec for spec. For other uses, it will be awesome, and though I don't know what SC2 is, if you can get it for mac it might be worth it to have that, if it's capable specwise, instead of a frankenputer. Just my two cents. Don't be hatin'.

I'd guess Star Craft 2, but I'm not sure. If this is the case, I've always heard Blizzard's games are well-known for their Mac OS support.

That said, if I only wanted a gaming rig, I'd go PC, and I love Macs.
