Not to buy, of course, just to look at them. I'm looking for rare Prince stuff. Do any of you know of any spots in Houston that one can find these unofficial releases. Or if you know of any reputable online sites. I know SoundWaves used to, but someone from Dave Matthews team busted them back in December. (What a dick.) ------------------
i was going to suggest soundwaves, but....nevermind.... don't know of any others in houston, however, i used to take trips to austin to buy cds. one good place for bootlegs was technophilia, if they are still there. online you'll be hard pressed to find bootlegged prince cds. he cracks down on that REAL hard. which ones are you looking for? i may have a few of them. and which ones do you already have? maybe we can do a "burn and swap" thang.
You may have some luck at the Saturday flea market at Hwy. 59 and Westpark. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
Verse, You a fan, eh? Good to hear. There is an awesome site that lists and rates each one. (http://www.guide2prince.org/main2.html) Finding this site has prompted me seek out some of these recordings. I've been a fan since '82 and never really bothered with boots because I've been burned enough times (horrible quality, etc) to not want to deal with it any more. I'm looking for: Charade - NEC Records Neon Rendevous (reissue) - Take It or Leave It Records Spanish Harem - Sabotage Records The Avenue - Moonraker Records What I have: Small Club (2nd show that night) The Undertaker If you don't have these, I'd be more than happy to trade for anything that you consider worthy. Trading is one thing, spending $30 or $40 for a bad recording is something else! RMT, Really?! Never would have thought to look there. ------------------
If you look around online, you'll have little problem finding boots of even those obscure artists. I'll see if I can find some Prince. Basically, then, you just do a B+P or something like that. I'll explain later when I find something. ------------------ CC.net's most courteous driver Oh yeah, and I'm looking for a job right now, so hire me please
Unfortunately, it has passed this year, but the Austin Records Convention is the place to go for that type of stuff. They have it in January or February every year in Austin. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
NNTP - The best kept secret of the web. If you are willing to learn a little bit, then download Forte Agent, find out your isp's news server address. Depending on the ISP you may strike gold. I just checked alt.binaries.prince, and there are several full concerts avalable, including shows at the Budokan, live on the BBC, a triple album called "The Ultimate Rehersal Collection", and a live show from Las Vegas. There are no popup ads, no misleading posts and the only bad albums I have ever downloaded have been clearly labled 'poor quality'. If web pages are the equivelent of the Las Vegas strip, then NNTP occupies the role of 'hippy commune'. ------------------
I don't like Prince...sorry...but the net in general is great for getting shows you want. I am a big Springsteen and Neil Young fan...and just about every show imagineable is out there if you want it... I got two of Bruce's 'acoustic nights' shows from 1996...3 cd sets, great sound, even colour covers...from a dude in Germany I'd only ever met from e-mail... Small world nowadays...and that rocks ------------------
I came across some places online today for people who trade Prince boots. http://www.tafkap.tmfweb.nl/ http://www.google.com/search?q=Prince+bootlegs Check out the google search for a bunch of them. Just to explain how this works, basically you should email the traders and ask for a B+P. B+P means "Blank and Postage". A guide to B+P's is here. In the trading community, you don't purchase boots (why that place you're talking about was broken up) -- that is not endorsed by any artist. Rather, the music is basically public domain. So you can get it for free, and make copies and distribute for free. It's a great hobby, and you can get into lots of awesome music through it.
