Guys, I'm in the market for a new HD Widescreen TV. Budget is around 1600-2000 and I'm hoping to get about a 55" with split screen 2 tuner PIP. Anyone bought a new TV recently? If so what price/model/store? Any other advice on brands? Thanks in advance.
I LOVE my Toshiba but it's only HD ready.....I use Time Warner with the $5 a month HDTV tuner, so full blown HD would have been a waste for me. http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=57H83
That's what I was going to do also, I don't wanna get an HD Ready TV and have the technology become obsolete.
Also, I do like that TV, a friend of mine got one last year and he loves it. It's for sale at BB for $1999 plus 10% off so about $1800. I'll check it out. Thanks.
A HD ready tv and HD tv are basically the same thing. All that you are looking for is a set that can display an image at 1080 lines of resolution. Sets that are labled HD just have a built in tuner for broadcast tv. You still need an external box for cable or direct TV. HD ready in no way limits you for future technology. Keep in mind that expensive gas plasma sets a labled HD ready since most dont have build in tuners.
I love my samsung. 47" 16X9 format HDTV. I also use Time Warner HD and love it, I just wish they would get ESPN HD. They told me december and I'm still waiting. I bought mine a year ago at Best Buy for 1599.
Wow Sonny. I have been in the market for a new WS HDTV for the past 4 months as well. I've settled on the 65" Mitsubishi model, because I've heard Mitsubishi makes the best WS HDTV's. I'm just waiting for a good deal (like how CC and BB offer gift cards when you purchase a TV) The only problem is trying to figure out if it will fit through the doorway of my apartment.
I've heard this on numerous occaisions as well, which is why I'm avoiding purchasing them (plus the insane prices!)
I've got a neighbor and a coworker who've bought Mitsubishis and they really like them. One was the 65" and the other was a 55". BB has a giftcard deal right now if you buy online.
Oops, I mistyped. I meant I'm trying to negotiate with a BB or CC to knock off the X amount of dollars of the gift card off the price of the TV. Some retailers have said they could do half of the gift card value, but I'm waiting until I can find one that will knock off the full amount.
I recently bought a 55 inch Mitsubishi and am extremely satisfied. I too was told that Mitsubishi makes the best WS projection TVs.
I've also got a 55" Mitsubishi HDTV that I bought in October 2001. From what I read before making that purchase, Mitsubishi WS projection TVs are great for watching DVDs and high def programming, but suck for regular cable. After nearly 2 1/2 years with this TV, I think that's an accurate description.
The thing with Plasma is that it will run out of the gasses that include, xeon neon and all those other eon's. As time passes these gasses dissappear. There is a max rated time of 25,000 to 30,000 hours on these Plasmas. They also is no way to pump these gasses back into them. LCD is the way to go.. But you wont get anything too big.
It's big enough. The only problem is the TV is just a tad smaller than my entire current entertainment center... So I'll have to get rid of that entire shelf/unit and replace it with a single TV. Plus I'll have to find a way to sell my current 32" TV. Either that or move it to my bedroom, which just seems like a waste (already have a small 19" in there that suits me just fine)
Hmm...assuming you watch about 3 hours of TV a day(And that's assuming that you would use your plasma for everyday-TV type stuff)...10,000 days...about 30 years. Unless my math is fuzzy, that should be sufficient life for a TV. I know that none of our TV's are from the 70's.
Ok, here's what I bought. Samsung HCN529W 52" WS HDTV It has a built in HDTV tuner plus I'm getting HDTV from Time Warner. I plan on adding an antenna outside and running PIP with the two HDTV inputs. I got it at CC for ~$1500 (it was a display model, regular price over $2100).
VJ, I think I have an extra 0 at the end of those numbers. Hey, Sonny You should get the City Advantage on that, Especially since it is a display model, those things get treated like crap, and the insurance provides in home service too. O yea and if you buy off the internet at CCity you get like 300 dollars, which can be put towards the insurance
