Super baddass link! I bought a digi cam about a year and a half ago. If I would have known, I would have spent a little more cash and gotten one that takes bigger and better pics! thanks

First off, I don't know much about cameras. I've used traditional cameras and the now very popular digital cameras. The apparent advantages being that one enables you to have a physical photo while the other let's you have a digital photo. I don't know how feasible it would be but are there any cameras that can produce both? If not, I would lean towards buying a regular camera. I'm about to go on probably the best trip of my life and don't want to be toating around a piece of crap. I'd appreciate any recommendations whether digital or not. Keep in mind that I'm looking for something affordable(<$500). I'm a student so the cheaper the better. Thanks all!
for under 500 you could get a nice 35mm SLR but if you want comperable digital quality to a $400 camera you'll have to pay 7-8 hundred and get something like the nikon 995. I might be a little out of touch with my prices since its been a couple of years but thats my opinion. you could always get a $300 camera and a $200 scanner with a film adapter.
You can print regular photos from digital images. I hear you can print them for about 30 cents at many Wal-Marts. Or, you can upload images online and have them printed on photo paper for about 49 cents a piece, but you have to pay shipping and handling. Check out www.ofoto.com I think you want at least a 2 megapixel camera, if you want 4x6 prints. Go to Best Buy and handle some of the cameras, you'll get a better idea of what you want once you start messing with them. I wanted a small camera that I could put in my pocket and take anywhere, so I bought a Canon S110. My friend wanted one with a 10x zoom so she bought a Canon Pro90 IS. Check out www.dpreview.com for more information.
There's not a digital camera out there for less than 10 grand that comes close to a film camera...especially if your shooting chrome. If you want the best possible pics as far as color & clarity, go film. The only advantages to digital at this point is convience, no processing costs, and the ability to preview your shot.
