I'm looking to plan a 3 day vacation(work a 6 and 3 schedule) but unsure of where I'm wanting to go right now. The beach sounds good so I though maybe Destin, Florida. I live in the Northeast part of Texas (around Marshall and Longview). Driving isn't really a factor for me as long as it is within a day drive. San Antonio and the river was also thought about.

I'm leaving for S.A. to take my daughter to Sea World on Thursday. We're going to eat dinner with shamu! It's somethings called, Dining with Shamu. I'm so excited! :D If you are going to goto a big attraction somewhere, check their website because they have good hotel+ticket packages.

I appreciate the input. Seaworld is definitely a possibility. I went there maybe 8 years ago. I would also consider the Schlitterbahn also depending on what days off I'm going.

For a quick 3 day, I choose San Antonio...going there next Friday...

A little closer, but still the same is Pennsacola, Florida..Very nice...A friend of mine at work is going to someplace in Alabama, which is even close...I'll edit it later and tell you the name...From Dallas to Pennsacola, took me a little over 10 hours...From Pennsacola to Houston is about 8...

La Cantera or Hyatt Hill Country in San Antonio is nice if you like golf.

There is also the Lost Pines area near Bastrop.

You could hit the Guadelupe near Gruene.

You could take a slightly longer trip out to the Frio...our family enjoys the River Haven cabins.

You could head down to Rockport or Port O'Conner and do some bay fishing if you enjoy that.

Head over to Lake Charles and hit the casinos.

You could head out to Lake LBJ area and stay at Horshoe Bay for golf, boating, and fishing.

    S.A. website

Goto this website and click on SAVE>Attractions and it will give you a lot of discounts. If you do end up wanted to goto Sea World enter "SAVE" as the promo code on the Sea World website.

Thanks for the website no_answer. Definitely will look into that.

RRJ...I thought about Pensacola also...but Destin is just maybe another hour or so down the road.

Supermac... Wont be able to do any fishing or golfing because of the girl I'm taking. I've got family that goes to the Frio river every year and they love it. But I was told if I was going to do that then I'd want to take a week off(no vacation days right now).

Lost Pines is awesome; they have the best lazy river in the world...........winds through an old growth pecan grove. Beautiful property too.

Rockport is really nice this time of year, but the crowd is often older.

But where you live.........I'd consider something like this:

    http://www.mountainharborresort.com/

(if you want to impress this girl, buy her a spa service........if you really want to impress her, get a couple's massage.)

    VEGAS!!!

Even though I haven't actually been there yet i've found it to be surprisingly affordable and practical. USAirways, for instance, was advertising a two night hotel/airfare package for as little $114 (price depends upon your location).

Most hotels have gigantic pools/artificial beaches and the average summer temperatures out there are in the 90's to 100's just like a real beach.

USAirways has a "vacation package" section on their website. I think that freakishly low price was if you were flying from Phoenix or somewhere out west. Like I said, the price depends upon where you're flying from. For all I know the promotion may be over but they had some great deal up there.

I don't know what the prominent airlines are out your way but USAirways dominates air traffic out of Pittsburgh so that's why I noticed it in the first place. It was like $250 flying out of Pittsburgh for the two nights and airfare package. Definitely not a bad deal.

I appreciate everyones input here. Hopefully more will come in and give me more options and opinions.

Pole. Thanks for that website and that seems pretty tempting. Probably the shortest drive out of all right now along with San Antonio.
