This thread for your memory and enjoyment, as part of my voluntary service to the Roxville community. It is a summary of the Rockets in year 2002 before Yao came. It features some interesting threads I found as I cruised through the BBS with my time machine. :) Those threads were not the best by far, but damn it, I've spent two hours on this already, and I would die if I go through every page to find the best.

As you read them, you will understand the pain the die-hard Rockets fans have gone through, and I think we new converts should show those over-1000-posts-members respect just for that. From the moment Yao was drafted, I know I will join these people and be part of what to come. Joy or tears, I am there with you.

Thanks, I actually found this quite interesting, I hope the thread does not get locked. I'd like to copy and paste some quotes which look really funny in hindsight :D.

Apparently the search function is up again?

    LOL.

And this is what Steve Francis now thinks when he reads crash's quotes:

    :D

    But crash already predicted it:

Where is "almostReady". He made some remarkable comments and I would like to see where he is now.

    Wow, thanks jamal.

I get chance to look back those days!

we debate draftee order, who Rox should pick, watch video clips, read posts from windandsea, pulling our hair of thinking when and whether Yao will ever show up...

Oh, man. What exciting days they were! When we won the championship. I will relive those days

Don't pick out one person. I've read through some of the old posts. Nearly all people had doubts some more than the others but they were just thinking the best for the Rockets. And I am sure all of them have now joined the bangwagon. Just lay off them.

There is a difference between stating an opinion and stating an opinion as if its a fact.

I love that 'dare to dream' thread. It just restores your faith in all those things you were taught as a kid on Sesame Street. Sniff.

I, even today, admit the Rockets took a gamble in drafting Yao. It's only a sure thing in hindsight; at the time, no one truly *knew* how it would turn out. But it was a gamble where the rewards and odds were in the Rockets favor, and they weren't afraid to ante up.

So major props to the Rockets organization, and the Rockets fans who backed the decision.

I don't know about "almostReady", but I do remember that tozai made a bunch of really stupid and insulting comments.

    One of them was:

    Another one:

Sane had some excellent trade ideas like No. 1 and something for Magloire and P.J. :D.

And how about this "special friend":

    And...

    :D

Will, Jeff, thacabbage, Manny, DaDakota were among those who said pretty much from the beginning "Let's draft Yao". Also NIKEstrad and aelliott.

    Voices of reason :).

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20 and I am sure one could dig up a lot of ridiculous quotes by me from the past, but this is all in good fun :). We all didn't know, it's just funny to read some of these things now.

Oeilpere's "Out of the bat cave for five" thread was kind of notorious.

And if you want some columnist who really did not have a clue but could not keep his mouth shut:

There are some classic "old ZRB" posts in those "hopes dashed" threads.

This is what I almost always think of when I see threads about how bad we are this season - how bad we REALLY were last season.

Thanks for pulling all that up. The Yao quotes are priceless but just seeing how unbelievably bad last year helps to remind EVERYONE that temperence is a virtue when it comes to being critical of a young team.

Looking back, I wonder where has that special friend of Steve Francis gone? Has he posted after the draft?

As I browsed the "Foreseeing Yao Ming" thread, I bump upon this one and I am really shocked to see how accurate he is.

He is not only right about Yao's stats. He mentioned at the end of his tread "It is not the Ming Dynasty, but the Rockets Dynasty."

Yao's nickname has not been invented by anyone at that time, and the fortune teller already knows.
