"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," publicist Nanci Ryder said in a statement issued Monday on behalf of the couple. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time," the brief statement concluded. Ryder said she could not elaborate on the split. Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, have two children, 7-year-old Ava and 3-year-old Deacon. The couple, who co-starred in the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions, married that year. In March, Witherspoon won a best-actress Academy Award for her role as June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line. Phillippe co-starred in the best-picture winner, Crash, and is starring in Clint Eastwood's latest film, the World War II drama Flags of Our Fathers.
that's depressing. i typically am not surprised when hollywood couples throw in the towel...but this one was a little different.
I'm not surpsrised. Didn't they get pregnant first? I saw them interviewed shortly after and they acted odd to each other.
i don't know...but i heard interviews with them talking about how important it was to work at marriage...everything i heard from them sounded "right" to me. and they lasted 7 years....hell, that's nearly a record in Hollywood.
It couldn't have been good for their marriage that she's had a much more lucrative career than him. It doesn't matter how hot she is, when she pays the mortgage, some men just can't take it. See generally Jessica Simpson.
It's too bad. She had a couple of kids. This sucks for them. Anyways, she's not just hot. She seems to have a great personality. She's like an 8.5 but her personality makes her a 9 or 10.
Reese is kinda cute, but she's not hot. My biggest gripe with her was how she sold out earlier this decade and started making crap. This was an actress who did Pleasantville, The Man In the Moon, and the criminally underrated Freeway in the 90's, and left that behind to do Sweet Home Alabama, Legally Blonde 2(the first one was actually a halfway decent flick), and Just Like Heaven. I'm hoping the Academy Award she received for Walk the Line marks a return to her roots, cuz I stopped following her career the moment she became "the next Meg Ryan".
I'm not really that into celebrity gossip and whatnot, but it did make me kind of sad to hear about it. I'm with Madmax. Their marriage seemed different than all the other 6-month Hollywood hookups. They were always the couple people considered the devoted family kind. Who knows though, maybe it won't end in divorce.
i know, who leaves doing smaller, critically acclaimed films not many see for $15 million a film. and yeah, how can anyone not think she's hot. and like Mr. Brightside, i always thought they were a lot younger than 30 and 32.
Has anyone seen her without her make-up? I don't think so. She's cute with make-up and all, she's got a good personality, she can act, and she's a country gal at heart. But, she doesn't measure up in the hottest actresses category IMO. We'd all have her...sure...but she has to be compared against the competition. I give her 8.3 out of 10 schwings.
