The Rockets' Roster seem to decline every year the year before Rudy T left. We had a good nucleus that if retained, could've surrounded Yao with a very potent offense. As most have said on this board, shooters like Cat, Anderson, Eddie Griffin, and defenders like KT could've done wonders for this club. Even during Yao's first year, Rudy's last, we were a poor man's Lakers and Spurs. We were like them, but younger and more athletic and less deep.

I thought we were about 2 players away from being a major contender. Now the team has been dismantled and we must start all over. But we must use the Spurs-Lakers models to construct the makeup of the team. These teams always had athletic 3's-Rick Fox and subsequently Devean George. Stephen Jackson and Bowen for the Spurs. A slashing 1 such as a Tony Parker and Derek Fisher and a defensive 4 in Rose and Madsen.
And likt the Spurs Lakers, you need smart, disciplined players committed to the team and playing together. Versatile players like Radmanivic would be good, Jon Barry, Gadzuric of Bucks could be a quality backup, Eric Williams of Nets can be a starting or backup 3, david wesley is also good.

Imagine in your mind T-Mac dumping it in to Yao, Yao dishes the ball out to a James Posey like starting 3 beyond the arc, he draws a defender jumping at him thinking that he would shoot it and quickly rotates it out to the 1 the 1 slashes and penetrates drawing 2 defenders, a quick dish to the good strong defensive PF flashing down the lane, he power dunks it home!! All 5 players touch the ball with 10 seconds left on the shot clock. What a beauty. This could happen. Whether and when it will is the question.

Fox is more athletic than JJ and Fisher slashes more than Lue. Fisher does it when he needs to and is more of a threat than these 2.

from what i remember from the championship lakers, (we shouldnt be compared to spurs, we're more like lakers) one of the biggest thing they had were their 3 point threats(forgot if it was rick or fisher), they were always making them damn 3's when they played us!
