Yao is making a new commercial and this one will aire during the Super Bowl. This new commercial is for the VISA Check Card (I.E. Tiki/ Ronde Barber twin mixup and Charlie Sheen at movie store) In this one, he goes to a New York area gift shop to buy some souviner and as New Yorkers usually do to unwelcomed visitors, the store clerk tries to talk smack to him cuz the store doesnt accept checks. As if the unruly treatment isnt enuff for the poor boy, they poke fun at his name by mixing it up with the popular New York area greeting, "YO!" I can't wait to hear the Chinese reaction to VISA making fun of his name! P.S. I have no problem with him shooting a commercial on his day off when he probably needs to rest. Whatever he does in his down time is his business, just as long as he doesnt get injured and is ready to play come game time. So lets not bash him for making a commercial during his day off.
I don't know if it's just a coincidence but he had a horrible game the next day back in Atlanta after he flew to New York after the Orlando game.
They showed some of the behind the scenes footage of this on the news last night. It looks like it is going to be really funny with the whole "Yao" "Yo" take. They aren't making fun of his name at all. They are saying "yo" each time they point to the "no checks accepted" sign. Each time the cashier lady says "yo" Yao says "Yao". If anything it's making fun of New Yorkers. Yao has some actually had some english lines in this commercial unlike the Apple commercial where he didn't speak at all. I know he says "can I write a check?". Maybe more.
Sorry YM, but the very end is the best part. (after Yao leaves, next customer enters) "Yo" "Gi...Yogi" (reveal of Yogi Berra)
