Absolutely NO defense being played in that game.

I still remember the playoff game between DAL and SAC when CWebb tore his ACL. Half time score was 88:80

I am watching this game along with other games. Whoever scores 140 should get this one.

Look at how they play defense. When Howard was driving for a dunk, Amare, Marion and Q all automatically opened the lane for Howard to avoid the body contact. Unless Howard is HIV positive or something, this is pretty disgraceful on the Suns side.

The mavericks defense is horrible whenever Dampier is out. When he's in we're noticeably better defensively. These couple of weeks when he'll be out Nellie's playing LOTS of small ball, thus our rebounding and defense has sucked. BUT, we are scoring more. Hopefully that will hold out until Damp gets back.

I don't know who is second tier. Dirk and Amare should have STARTED the allstar game. If fan voting weren't used to determine starters, they probably would have. Those two guys are both having their best seasons to date.

Yeah, they fit the bill perfectly. All-star game is the epitome of
    no defense

By the way, Amare is a beast on offense.

Dirk's defense has gotten so much better than it ever was, he's actually an above average defender. I believe he and KG are the only PF's in the top 30 in steals and blocks.

And yeah, i'd call being the first player since MJ to combine for 8 steals and blocks in a game pretty average.

I think that actually the Spurs and Memphis game is more exciting. Spurs is on its way to lose second game at home this season.

With decent guard play, we can take the Spurs on the road. Notice how the mephis guards make Ginobili and Parker look so ordinary with their pressing D.

    BTW, Dallas lost.

Agree that Amare is a beast on the offensive end. The Suns did a great job at giving him the ball in transition and credit Amare for outrunning his defender back for easy points.

Not that I care about Dirk's defense per se or even watch that many Mav games, but having a bunch of blocks or steals doesn't automatically make you a good defender. Or even an above average defender.

I mean I guess it shows that he's active (so that's good), but can he guard his man and prevent him from scoring? Does he rotate well, or "show" adequately when put in Pick and Roll situations? Can he protect the basket? These are all the things that go into being a decent defender, and you can't just conclude this kind of stuff by looking at the numbers.

That's true, but I've watched EVERY mavs game in the last 10 years or so...so yeah, I feel pretty confident in making that proclamation. The fact that his numbers are better is just evidence. Dirk doesn't even look like the same player he was 2 seasons ago. Not to mention he's one of the top defensive rebounders in the league, a very undervalued characteristic.

    what?

as in a game where your blocks plus your steals is greater than or equal to 8?

not only would mj (i assume this is jordan) not be the last to do it, but kirilenko has had several games where he was over 5 in both categories, much less just having 8 combined. josh smith had 10 blocks in a game this season so that's over 8.

and dirk certainly hasn't had 8 blocks and 8 steals in a game this year if that's what you meant. so i have no idea what that statement meant.

I'm hoping all of that running is going to give Amare tendonitis by the end of the season.

Dirk was 31st in steals entering tonight, so this isn't even true. Shawn Marion is in the top 30 in both, and Kirilenko and Wallace would be if they qualified. Dirk isn't top 20 in either category.

Throw me into the pool who has no clue what the "first since MJ" to have 8 steals and blocks in a game means. He did it once this year- 6 blocks and 2 steals against Philly...in a loss. Hell, Kirilenko has done that 4 times this season, and he was out for like a month.

That was in reference to an allstar game. A game full of "superior" defenders. year in and year out Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, AI...none of them have done that since MJ. But, of all people, Dirk does it. The guy who is a "crappy" defender.

Please do not tell me you just used an all-star game to defend Dirk's defense.

    Please.

Why not? that seems to be the only time you guys have watched him play.

The argument is that dirk is now an above average defender. Care to prove me wrong?
