Longley evacuated his partner, his two children and their two friends from the home in Montreal Street as it went up in flames about 3am (AWST) today. "We are lucky I suppose in a way," Longley told Network Ten. "We stood here and watched, which was hard. "That roller door was glowing orange." The converted industrial premises were well alight by the time fire crews arrived but all five occupants of the house escaped without injury. Longley was overcome with emotion and wept as he talked of his personal disaster. "I was asleep and heard a bang, an explosion, and it was already on fire and got the kids out," he told the Nine network. Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to an adjacent garage which housed up to five of Longley's vehicles, but the home was left gutted. The former Chicago Bulls player, who played alongside Michael Jordan, is believed to have lost much of his sporting memorabilia dating back to his glory days with the US National Basketball Association (NBA). But it is not known whether the fire destroyed the three championship rings he won while playing in the NBA. "There is a lot of stuff that is irreplaceable, you know, from memories all the way through to..," he said, trailing off. "I don't care about that stuff. "I've got all that in my head, it's more photos of kids and stuff like that." But he said because no one was hurt, "it's not a tragedy it's just a bummer". A fire services spokesman said the family moved a number of boxes into the garage yesterday which contained some items from Longley's basketball career. Investigators have yet to determine a cause of the fire but are not treating it as suspicious. All that Bulls memorabilia, lost
Damn that's a huge "bummer" as he said. I'm sure he can get most of the stuff back if he still has the $ from back in the day.. but those lost memorabilia must really suck. At least nobody is hurt and he still has his cars.
partner means: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XG6ABvCalLA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XG6ABvCalLA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
it was smeggysmeg, and we all know it. unless it was aussierocket. I know, I hate the bulls too. We would have kicked their asses. Maxwell or no Maxwell.
I like him because he said he'd tell his grandchildren he and Jordan combined for 57 to beat the Knicks, and he hit the game winner. Of course, he wouldn't mention Jordan had 55 of those points.
not necessarily... he could have had kids with his girlfriend, live together, but not be married. Hence 'partner', not 'wife'. Well he's got three rings, which is more than most in the states have, let alone in Australia...
