It really sickens me to see the depths that UT-Austin has stooped to wrt the players they bring in to win. Ramonce Taylor was arrested for having 5 lbs of weed. He also had live 40 caliber ammo in his car. 5 lbs of weed is more than recreational use. With that amount, it's probably a good guess that he's dealing. All this comes after he was held out of Spring practice for allegedly failing all his classes. I wonder if the Longhorn fans will be upset about this. Probably not. Anything for a win. Win at all costs, baby, who cares if you have alleged felons on the team...His TD in the Rose Bowl came in handy! ...Shameful. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/sports/stories/longhorns/05/15ramonce.html LONGHORN FOOOTBALL UT running back Ramonce Taylor arrested Deputies considering felony drug charges. By Suzannah Gonzales, Tony Plohetski AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Sunday, May 14, 2006 BELTON — University of Texas running back Ramonce Taylor was arrested early Sunday after Bell County sheriff's deputies found a backpack containing about five pounds of mar1juana in the rear of his vehicle, authorities said. The Bell County sheriff's office said in a news release that a live 40-caliber round of ammunition also was found in the center console of the vehicle. Taylor remained at the Bell County Jail on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of possession of mar1juana over five pounds, a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The Bell County district attorney's office was weighing whether to file charges. Taylor was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning. Taylor, 20, was a sophomore running back for the national champion Longhorns. He was a part-time starter who scored a touchdown in the Rose Bowl. But Taylor was excused from spring drills with the team in March for unspecified academic reasons. Texas Head Coach Mack Brown released a statement today, saying that Taylor has not participated in any team functions since he was excused. "We are aware of this recent situation and will follow it as the legal system runs its course," Brown said in the statement. "At this time, we will not consider reinstating him to the team." Austin lawyer Ken Oden, who has represented Taylor on past allegations, said he received a call from Taylor's mother at 7:30 a.m. today requesting his assistance. Oden, a former Travis County attorney, said he recommended that the family hire a lawyer in Bell County. "She's just trying to figure things out," Oden said. Oden said this afternoon he did not yet know whether the family had retained an attorney. The arrest stemmed from an incident about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at a pecan farm on Texas 95 in Little River, a community about 10 miles south of Temple and east of Interstate 35. According to a statement from the sheriff's department, deputies received a report of a fight involving as many as 100 people at the pecan farm. While en route, deputies received a complaint from Taylor, who had been at the fight and whose vehicle window was broken, sheriff's officials said. A deputy met Taylor at a convenience store in Little River. While interviewing Taylor, sheriff's officials learned that Taylor had threatened to return to the fight with a firearm and might be armed. Taylor told the deputies that he was not in possession of any weapons and gave them permission to search his vehicle, sheriff's officials said. Two other people with Taylor were released at the scene. Taylor's vehicle was impounded and placed on investigative hold. Taylor was cooperative and did not resist at any time during the incident, sheriff's officials said. A clerk at the convenience store said today that her manager was on duty early today and was not available for comment. Workers at Stewart's Pecan Farm said they were unaware of the incident. Taylor, who is from Temple and played for Belton High School, gained 513 yards rushing and caught 27 passes for 265 yards last season for the Longhorns. In the national championship game at the Rose Bowl, Taylor scored on a 30-yard run in the second quarter to give Texas a 16-7 lead. Last year, Taylor was described as a possible suspect in a Dec. 10 incident in Austin's Sixth Street entertainment district and an assault involving an automatic handgun on Sept. 4. Oden said that police told him late last year that they had ended their investigation and that Taylor and fellow football player Cedric Griffin would not be charged.
hahah!. Awesome!. Did I win the "UT athlete infraction/bigtexx would be the first to make that thread" pool? As soon as I saw it, I was waiting for bigtexxx to make the thread. I knew it!. I knew it@!!!~~!@ you guys can pay me through paypal.
It didn't make my week at all. It does, however, serve to highlight my point that UT-Austin brings in thugs and criminals to win football games. Their pathetic graduation rates are also a concern of mine. I'm sad to see the good name of the "scholar-athlete" tarnished by schools like UT-Austin who will stop at nothing to win games.
Your obesession with UT borders on psychotic, man. I'm sure he'll be released from the team (as Mack Brown dismissed him from spring practices due to his falling academics).
If you hate to see the "scholar athlete" tarnished, why don't you post every time it happens regardless of the school. This sort of the thing happens all the time, at just about every major athletic program, yet you only find cause to post when it happens at UT.
Whats the big deal with weed? Go to Harvard, MIT, Penn, Dartmouth, etc...and every 20th kid will have the biggest stash of weed youve seen. What thugs!!!!
Like anyone on this board believes that bigtexx is 'sickened' by this arrest... ______ "I'm sad to see the good name of the "scholar-athlete" tarnished by schools like UT-Austin who will stop at nothing to win games." ______

LOL, he called the cops and let them search his car, when there were drugs in it. He threatened to return with a firearm, and did have ammo in his car.. if I read that right..
Hilarious that you guys try to turn this thread into me being the bad guy, instead of the alleged felon who failed all his classes that you guys were trotting out in the Rose Bowl to try to win the game. Pretty much as I expected.... Hey, but that TD in the Rose Bowl was great! Wooohoo! BOOK 'EM
I sure wouldn't be calling the cops if there were enough drugs in the car to put me in jail for 20 years...
He wasn't failing the classes when the Rose Bowl was played. I'm not sure how long it's been since you were in college, but the semester starts in mid-January.
?? He was held out of spring drills due to his poor academic performance. What semester could that performance have come in? Did they anticipate in advance him failing the spring classes?
1.) I can tell you for a fact he didn't fail all of his classes. 2.) I can also tell you there's minimal chance he's the one actually doing the dealing. I know RT fairly well. He really isn't a bad guy...his "posse" is just a terrible influence on him. After his 6th street dilemma, he gave up drinking altogether for awhile. The guy is loyal to a fault...and with some of the people he hangs around, that can cause trouble. I hope the best for him, but he screwed up.
He was participating in the spring drills at first, but then hurt his knee. He was eligible to move off campus (out of Jester), and coaches knew/found out he wasn't going to classes pretty much at all.
