    WindowsVista

Why didn't they just leave it Longhorn?

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Microsoft announced Friday that it will call its next-generation operating system "WindowsVista."

The much-anticipated operating system had formerly been code-named "Longhorn."

Microsoft has promised that the new system, which is scheduled to be released in late 2006, will have several improvements, including better security features, more comprehensive search capabilities and a friendlier user interface.

Licenses for operating systems and related software still account for the majority of the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant's sales and operating profits.

I hope more secure and faster executiion in the new system. Interface doesn't really matter as long as it is not too bad.

MAN, wtf is wrong with United Statesian companies naming their crap in Spanish? Vista is view in Spanish...

Can't they just come up with their own? We don't use English nam... oh, wait... yeah... we don't have a name for "sandwich" in Spanish... it's just a "san-güich". Crap. :(

OK, you can keep some of the Spanish names like the Isuzu Hombre and all the "San's" in California, since it belonged to us first.

    Crappy, crappy name.

I get made fun of a lot because if how I pronounce the word "vista". The way I say it, it sounds like "veesta" while others use an "i" instead of an "ee" sound.

Why.... why do they have such bad names for their products? If you Goole "Word" or "excel" you'll get a bazillion results that may, or may not be related to their product. And don't even get me started with ".net" which is their development architecture as well as a domain extension (stupid move there, MS).

How do you guys pronounce "vista" ?

    1) v[IMG]sta
    or
    2) v[IMG]sta (sounds like veesta)

    ?

Phonetically, when you speak Spanish, you can't differentiate between a "v" and a "b". For example, "burro" and "vaca" will sound just alike.

In this case if I was reading it in English would say: "WYNN-doughs-VEE-stah", not "wynn-doughs-vee-STAH".

Forgive for bringing Harry Pottah back, but it sounds like that "levio-SAH" scene...

    vis·ta ( P ) Pronunciation Key (vst)
    n.

    1.
    a. A distant view or prospect, especially one seen through an opening, as between rows of buildings or trees.
    b. An avenue or other passage affording such a view.
    2. An awareness of a range of time, events, or subjects; a broad mental view: “the deep and sweeping vistas these pioneering critics opened up” (Arthur C. Danto).

Like I said, I like it.. it rolls off the tongue well.. but it does sound kinda 80's ish..

As an apple fan, I must whole heartedly approve of the name "Microsoft Vista" - it could not sound like more of a bust. How much longer do we get to wait for this? I have really enjotyed it so far, I hope it does not come too soon. And that video is classic Microsoft; it looks like a Sunday morning religious broadcast, or an infomercial of people going lukewarm for a product.

Rejected names for new Microsoft OS:

    1. Windows Edsel
    2. Windows New Coke
    3. Windows Chaotic
    4. Windows Vietnam
    5. Windows Dan Langhi

    This reminds me of...

Macromedia (makers of Freehand) is being acquired by Adobe (makers of Freehand's competing product, Illustrator). If the acquisition is allowed to occur, the products may merge. The running joke is that the new product will be named "Frustrator".
