I'm trying to get a board for a beginner who's 6 foot tall and 300 lbs. He wants to do a combination of freeriding and simple downhill when he can. Freeriding isn't a problem...it's just cruising the street for fun. As far as downhill, he wants to gradually increase his speed as he gets more comfortable on a board. I've narrowed it down to 2 boards. Which one would should I get? The Sector 9 Sunset or Land Yachtz Evo 2008 The Evo is 11 ply, which I think is good for the flex he's going to put on (300lbs). I'm not sure what the Sunset is though. Any help/suggestions are welcome as well, but these are the two boards I've narrowed it down to. Also, any advice to find these around Houston or online for cheap would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks
I wouldn't get either of those -- I would get a traditionally shaped long board (ie) looks like a regular board but about a foot longer and slap on some nice (large) soft wheels. IMHO those boards you posted get old really quick.
You could try The Source. There is one in the Village. It's where I got my Sector 9 Carbon Trylam. Good board for Houston.
That dude should seriously just run for a while........ Get him a board when he has lost 70 lbs.......
Forget the skat3board, the scooter killed skate or die a long time ago. Instead, let us know if this beginner has good footwork and long arms. Let's get matt schaub some help on the line. =)
Haha. Actually, he did play O-line all 4 years in high school. He was decently recruited but tore his ACL the VERY last game his senior year. Literally, the next day, the letters/calls just stopped coming. He hasn't been able to recover since then. He misses the game like crazy. He's involved in non-contact football just so he can play the game. To knote, he's more big than fat. He's active and works out consistently. Anything I can do to get him active (such as longboarding) is a plus. Back on topic, my only concern with the Evo is how low it is to the ground. How much give will the Evo have when 300lbs gets on it?
What he said. Also I believe Shannons Street Waves at Willowbrook and Soundwaves on Montrose carry long boards. It may be better to just go there and check some out in person. I'd also prefer a 'cruiser' rather than a long board, but to each his own.
