[Long-winded Rant] South Africa: An Omen For America?

Confused on the parallels:

South Africa - Black African 80.2%, White 8.4%, colored(mixed) 8.8%, Indian/Asian 2.5%
United States - White 62.0%, Hispanic or Latino 17.3%, Black 12.6%, American Indian and Alaska Native 0.8%, Asian 5.2%

So your fear is that the persecuted minority group will take power and attack the majority.
Where in South Africa, the persecuted majority group took power.

South Africa has more in common with Iraq after we destabilized it than it does with the USA.

 

Throwing in Hillary Clinton and conflating White Privilege in America to the disturbing and complicated race relations of South Africa is a very bad way to setup any type of constructive dialog on race.... to say the least.

That being said, until a few years ago I never really knew that many people from South Africa well enough to understand how truly bad it is there. A neighbor of ours is from South Africa, and on the surface, you'd think they are the nicest people in the world.. until something comes up about immigration & race. Holy crap.... that's a xenophobe if I've ever known one, and I've known a lot living here in Texas, but their history there really does setup an unfortunate tension between races that will continue to last for generations.

*We absolutely have White Privilege here in the United States. That's just not debatable unless you don't understand what the term really means. That doesn't mean I'm ashamed to be Caucasian, or that I owe anything to anyone. Just that I need to be cognizant of how good we have it here IN THE US, and how there are injustices (some very seen as very small or not seen at all) that contribute to injustice in our country that needs to be rectified over time. Sometimes its as terrible as getting shot at by the police for next to nothing, and sometimes its as subtle as the tugging her child closer to her when she walks next to a black man in the mall. I'm confident that if I get pulled over today by a police officer for running a stop light, I'm not going to get shot by him. Yes.... that's a PRIVILEGE if there ever was one.

Back to SA (Again... a whole other conversation), yes the Apartheid back in the 1940's gave White's socio-economic & political power, but the White Privilege there with the white minority is completely different circumstances than the white MAJORITY here in the US for the past 200+ years.

If you are trying to use SA as an example to make a case that White in the US are under seige, try again. That's a really really poor analogy and if you want to attempt at glazing over the abhorrent Apartheid segregation movement of the 20th century, that is setting a very disjointed argument.

 

Sounds like some very fine people on both sides.
