    Nope...not a rant.

In fact..i might be the guy you'll want to rant about! But i'm hoping that's not the case.

Any of you taken any really long trips with youngsters? Any advise? My guys have gone on 2-3 hour plane rides without any problems...but we're thinking of a bigger trip next year. Possibly full days of travel. Planes, trains and automobiles. I'm resigned that the days of overnight bus rides though developing countries are on hold...but going places that require 8-12 hour plane trips might be pretty sweet. Except for the plane ride.

So.....any of you done it? And advise? Kids are 3 and 1. Will probably have just turned 4 and 2 when we go!

Dope 'em up on some Dramamine, and they'll sleep the whole time! No worries!

take an evening flight so they will sleep for much of it.
make a big deal about how cool it is to fly in an airplane.
    bring books and toys.
    pray.

Dude, not cool. Just make sure they're not yelling and screaming once others are trying to sleep. A splash of NyQuil should do the trick. Also, it's well documented that small children have difficulty with their ears popping during takeoff and landing.

Bring a portable DVD player, all their favorite movies, headphones and extra batteries.

Hey! I don't want them yelling and screaming either! Good advise on the night trips. And DVD's on the lap top might work too. Anybody have first hand experience? Is it better to have a stop over to do two half days of travel...or just one big mega-trip?

This is a very marginal idea.

i've traveled with my kids, soon to be 4 and 2, to europe twice yearly and to texas annualy, and to various other locals since they were born. just got back from SoCal two days ago and the kids were great, no meltdowns whatsoever. i just get them pumped up about the flight. i've got them cheering for the idea of flying.

Do it one day cause you and the kids are gonna be whipped the day after traveling whether you do it in one day or two. An additional day of travel is just one less day of relaxing.
