So, I had an experience this morning!

On the way to taking my girlfriend to her state standardized test(TAAS, TAKS, whatever...it's called Regents here), I had car troubles. Even though my crappy car showed that I had an eighth of a tank, I ran out of gas in the middle of a turn lane. She got upset because she had to be at school in like 10 minutes, and school was a good 2 miles away, so I ran about a mile to her house, and called like everyone I could think of to try and find her a ride. Eventually, her step-dad who was in the shower got out, and took her. She ended up being like 5 minutes late to her test.

Anyways, in all the madness that ensued when the car ran out of gas, I couldn't get my 4 ways or anything on, and I just panicked and ran to her house. So, by time her step-dad was able to get me back to my car, a cop was already on the scene(15 to 20 minutes after). Anyways, I got there, explained to the cop what had happened, and to my surprise, he wasn't mad or anything. He explained to me that a tow truck had been called about 10 minutes before, so I asked him if there was any way we could call it off. He said there wasn't, that I'd have to make a deal with the driver. Luckily for me, the tow truck never showed. This cop was really nice to me, though. I kept apologizing to him, and he was like, "It's okay. I didn't really have anything better to do than to sit here." He even told one guy off that decided to stop in the middle of the intersection and give me his opinion (yeah, people are assholes). So finally, after waiting for the tow truck for like 15 minutes, the cop pushed me about halfway into a downhill intersection, and told me to park on the side of the road safely. I coasted to a parking spot, and before I even parked he was gone. I didn't even get to thank him.

I was so frantice before that, though, asking him if I'd get any type of ticket or anything, because I was scared I would, and have to pay it off with graduation money. He assured me that they don't give tickets for that, and they just wanted the intersection clear. It's just refreshing for me to know that not all of our city's cops are law-breaking jerks.

I kind of want to send a thank you card into the police station.:)
