I don't know how people make it here. Its crazy expensive. Here are some examples

$40 to go about 4 miles in a taxi.
$30 dollars to ride the subway from the airport
$4 dollars for some bottled water at the restaurant
$30 dollars for internet access in your hotel room
$10 dollars to eat at mcdonalds.

What makes it worse is that I heard the people that live here make about half of what I make in the US. I'm glad I'm here on the company's dime because this is one crazy expensive place. It's like paying amusement park prices all the time.

i don't remember it being that crazy when i was there but it was definitely pretty bad. the price in pounds often exceeds what you're used to paying in dollars back here.

The exchange rate is so bad right now that it hurts to think of things in terms of dollars. I was under the impression that most professionals such as engineers, CPA's, financial analysts, etc earn similar numbers to their US counterparts, except only in GBP. So 80k pounds should let you live comfortably there.

Guess again buddy boy. Engineers make around 40k pounds if they are experienced. Look at the salaries on this site.

I've been to all except Osaka and Moscow and yeah, i remember it being expensive, but not that expensive...Although, I also remember Singapore being equally bad, but this was the late 90's...

Thank god I had an expense report...

thats why you see U.S. sellers on eBay accepting payments in British Pounds to take advantage of the weak exchange rate. They get around this buy "claiming" part of their business is done overseas...

I totally agree that Houston is lacking in public transportation. But my not having an taxi option is not costing me $350 to get to the airport. :D

I was in London this summer.

The mos teye popping thingfor me was when I wanted to get a Shawarma..

Basically, it's an arabic gyro kind of thing.

Over here in Dubai, it costs somewhere around $1.

In London? A little over $27.

It's not like there's a limited number of Arabic restaurants there either. There's an entire street that's basically "Arab town". It's some meat or chicken, with some sauce, a pickle, wrapped with bread..0

Gas prices are r****ded too. To be fair, gas prices everywhere are r****ded to people from Dubai, but it was just insane to think that they pay around 3 times more than I do to fill a tank.

According to that chart, Hong Kong is #9. Houston more expensive than Seattle, DC, Boston,Denver? That's wrong.
