I am curious to see what the leaders of some of the more influential Islamic countries say about the bombings.

Will it be condemned as an act of terrorism, or will it be glorified as a fight in a holy war?

How will it be reported on Al-Jazeera?

I can not believe the terrorists actually think things like this will drive people in Britain or the rest of the world out of Middle Eastern countries, it will do the opposite and will only hurt more people in their own countries.

This will not end until the Muslim countries themselves take action and condemn and hunt terrorists down, until that time, it will go on and on....simply sad.

There is no past example to suggest that Al Jazeera would gorify these attacks. They have no history of glorifying other terrorist bombings.

As far as the heads of places like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. I doubt much will change. They will say the right things, and offer condolences, but I doubt little will change.

I agree. Sadly this overwhelming action by a unified Muslim world against terrorism, which we all desire, will not take place until the Western countries take action and stop US/British/Israeli atocicities against the Muslim world. This is something justice requres and it will also dry up the pockets of support for terrorism that exist in the Muslim world.

Similarly actions like this one in London only provide may provide more support for the state terrorism of the West, which as we see, kills many innocent folks from the Middle East.

Like 9/11 and the Iraq Invasion, this is a good day only for the extremists of the world.

I wonder if Tony Blair used the same motto as Bush did by proclaiming "we are fighting terrorists (or the War on Terror) in Iraq so we won't have to fight 'em here in our homeland".

    Islamic Militans linked to Al-Queda

CAIRO, Egypt - A group calling itself “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe” posted a claim of responsibility for Thursday’s blasts in London, saying they were in retaliation for Britain’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The authenticity of the message could not be immediately confirmed.

The statement, which also threatened attacks in Italy and Denmark, was published on a Web site popular with Islamic militants, according to Elaph, a secular Arabic-language news Web site, and Der Spiegel magazine in Berlin, which published the text on their Web sites.

“Rejoice, Islamic nation. Rejoice, Arab world. The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said the statement, translated by The Associated Press in Cairo. The AP was unable to access the Web site where it was posted, which was closed quickly after the reports.

But MSNBC TV translator Jacob Keryakes, who said that a copy of the message was later posted on a secular Web site, noted that the claim of responsibility contained an error in one of the Quranic verses it cited. That suggests that the claim may be phony, he said.

"This is not something al-Qaida would do," he said.

The group al-Qaida in Europe claimed responsibility for the last major terror attack in Europe: a string of bombs that hit commuter trains in Madrid, Spain in March 2004, killing 191 people. Two days after that attack, a video was found in a trash can outside a Madrid mosque with a statement purported to be from the group’s spokesman, called by the nickname “Abu Dujan al Afghani.”

In the new statement, the group said “the heroic mujahedeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west.”

“We warned the British government and the British people repeatedly. We have carried out our promise and carried out a military attack in Britain after great efforts by the heroic mujahedeen over a long period to ensure its success.”

“We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all crusader governments that they will receive the same punishment if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan,” the statement went on.

It was signed “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Why was this post necessary? I was posting a link about who is claiming responsibility?

In light of this new attack by Al Qaeda maybe we should consider abandoning the occupation of Iraq and devote more resources to fighting Al Qaeda.

As was suggested in another thread, we can let the Iraqis handle the Al Qaeda that have infiltrated in Iraq since we had our ill fated invasion. It would perhaps give the Iraqis something to unite around. I doubt if Al Qaeda would last very long in Iraq without our presence generating what support they have there. It would be good to deprive Al Qaeda of the their training bases and fertile reInthere.

Sad day for Muslim's too as their religion continues to get trashed throughout the world due to extremism.

Now the Shi-te extremists are bombing music stores in Basra because it is against Islam...WTF?

Time for the Islamic leaders to stand up and HELP instead of sitting cowardly by on the sidelines.
