LOL, I don't put much stock in Hitchens anymore (like SOME PEOPLE do) as he's sort a professional denouncer speaking from a vodka-fueled high horse, but it's pretty funny that even he can't stomach McCain/Palin

    Vote for Obama
McCain lacks the character and temperament to be president. And Palin is simply a disgrace.

Wow, that is one ticked off writer.

This paragraph was a gem -- scathing, but yet so true. It still amazes me how Christians in their right mind can still support this woman.

Nothing anyone with half a brain hasn't realized yet, but he does put it in a funny way sometimes.

Not so much an endorsement for Obama, as it is a scathing attack on McCain and Palin.

It doesn't amaze me, if you know any of them. My sister, for example. Never read a book in her life that she didn't have to. Joel Osteen every Sunday. Called Obama a Muslim. My sister didn't say it, but clearly she sees Sarah Palin in herself, the fundamentalist social conservative soccer/hockey mom.

I'm not calling out the intelligence of all fundamentalists, but I wish they'd read things outside of their faith, and maybe even try to understand the Bible that they are reading and try to take some notes on what Jesus actually taught and believed.

Occam's Razor would suggest they are not Christian. I agree.

They don't need to read things outside their faith. I'm a firm believer in Jesus and I don't see where in the bible it encourages me to promote a leader who is obviously incompetent, deceitful, vindictive and corrupt. The bible has some choice words for people who would rather choose to believe in lies than hear the truth. And that's what I see people doing -- they are being fed lies and they buy them hook, line and sinker because they're hearing exactly what they want to hear.

I was sharing with some of my friends recently -- and I think I kinda woke them up out of their spell. "We are not sheep. God is not a Republican. How long do we continue to believe lies?"

God gave us a mind. I think it's a sin not to use it.

Wow. The right unraveled. (though it's a bit unfair to classify hitchens under any umbrella given his peculiar trotskyite-turned-neocon evolution - this is not a compliment.) to date, this is only rivaled by david brooks' "sarah palin represents a fatal cancer to the republican party."

at the least, i'm glad pseudo-intellectual elements from the right are at least making somewhat of an attempt to banish the populist, radical trash now that the marriage is no longer profitable. our politics deserves better in this country.

Amen. The sooner neither party panders to the evangelical xenophobic bigot crowd the better this country will be.

The other night I heard a priceless comment from someone on the tube. Sadly, I can't remember who it was (been having a very bad couple of weeks, for reasons that will remain private), but here it is...

"Sarah Palin was born without the gene that tells you when to be embarrassed."

For her sake, I hope so. I couldn't stand the humiliation.

Hitchens' disgust for religion transcends any secular disagreement he may have.

Where you see humiliation others see courage and martyrdom.........................................

That was said on Real Time with Bill Maher. And I laughed when I heard it. A lot.

Mainly because my wife says the same thing, in almost the exact same words, about me (but not nearly in as negative a context).

I don't agree with him on everything but I enjoy anything Hitchens. His books on Thomas Paine and Orwell were page turners for anyone with a taste for history.

I love it when he said during an interview one time, "I drink to make other people more interesting." I do believe he is drunk during most of his interviews or writing. Despite that, he never loses control of his line of thought. It's the damndest thing. That to me is at least entertaining, even when I disagree with what he's saying. The guy always does his homework.
