Is that what these guys are called? Make the nonstop noise when the sun goes down at night time. Why are they so bad this yr? I live near Briar Forest and Kirkwood and they so SO bad. On the sides of the house, on the fence, on the CEMENT by our cars. When will these MONSTERS go away? Im terribly afraid, for my life.

This is a Cicada Killer. (I think "The Cicada Killers" would make a great name for a blues band btw)

I think they had a cicada birth cycle on "Planet Earth." Apparently so many were born and die in short amount of time, the forest they die in had a huge growth period due to the fertilization of the ground after they all die.

A cicada is one of those noises that is so familiar, I really don't hear it any more when I'm outside...

I remember buying grilled cicada on a stick in Beijing.

    Much more delicious than locusts.

When I was a kid and my family went to visit my grandmother in San Antonio, we used to collect armies of there shells. We would seriously cover her picnic table in the suckers, just ones we found in her backyard. They were freakin' everywhere...

I like their singing. To me, it's the sound of late Texas summer.

The sound of the Cicada makes me remember sitting on the front porch as a kid growing up in L J.

We would chase little girls around the playground with the left over shells... :D
