so it happened this past Friday night...I've become a regular at a local mexican food place by my apartment. So i've been going to this place for about a year and half now and I only order one of 3 things off the menu. Since its literally 2 blocks away from my apt I usually stop there once a week on the way home from work or I'll walk there on a weekend morning to get a breakfast burrito. Anyways back to Friday night.... I had a late lunch and had planned on not eating dinner and just watch the debates. After the debates were over I was really hungry so I walk down to the place and its jammed packed. It probably can have about 20 people at most sit down and eat inside and there was probably about 30 people in there. I was in line and one of the cooks behind the counter saw me and smiled and waved so I waved back. I walked up to the register and ordered my usual fare and stood by the TV they have watching espn. 3 minutes later they called my order. I walked up and asked the lady how it was ready so quick and she said that when I walked in Eddie (the cook who waved) started making my usual so I wouldnt have to wait for the entire crowd since I was one of their regulars. They had even threw in two tacos for free since they weren't sure if I was going to order the tacos or burrito. I dropped a few more dollars in their tip jar and walked out...people were all looking at me upset since they were still all waiting for their food and they had been there before me. The cashier even knew my name (never told her) she remembered it from my card I had dropped in (for those 'free lunch' things). so now I am a regular at Taco Plus and whatever perks that brings. its kinda cool but at the same time kinda sad that I've been there so much thta they know my orders that well. ohwell
Sometimes you wanna go Where the cashier kinda knows your name Where they give you free Tacos incase your order's not the same
I found a video of you on youtube after you ate those tacos. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vqr3oRp1jDA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vqr3oRp1jDA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
It's nice when you've got a rapport like that. I've got a similar situation with the local bike store I frequent - good guys, and very often I end up getting minor repairs (< $40) gratis. Good deal for both of us - I spend no less than $1000 there a year. Evan
I've been a regular at a lot of restaurants and we never get that kind of treatment. We've been going to Tay Do forever, even back when they were at Dynasty Mall and even though there are people there who recognize us, they don't give us crap. Lai Lai dumpling house, been going there for 2 decades, the only free thing we ever got was some fried bread another table didn't want and one time recently when our order was screwed up we got some free duck that somebody didn't want. I don't even care about free food, just an aknowledgement that we are regulars.
I used to be a regular at a Jamba Juice. Its a good feeling, sometimes I would get upgraded to POWER size for free.
Only at Triple Crown. I love it when my beer's waiting for me when I enter the place. Always end up getting at least one or two free ones everytime I'm in there.
We are regulars at Los Cucos in Kingwood. We go at least once a week. One of the waitresses sees us coming, grabs us and puts us at a table before everyone else. Then she usually comps us a margarita or two. Being a big tipper (30-40%, depending on service) sometimes has it’s advantages. There’s an oil change place we go to that always does us special favors. I sometimes go in there and get some coffee from their cappuccino machine on Saturday mornings if I’m out running errands. They don’t care. During the hurricane, I brought my car (which had a full tank of gas) in to see if they could siphon some gas out of it for our generator. This was at the height of the gas lines. They put it on the lift and got me a good 5 gallons, then didn’t charge me anything. I went next door and bought 2 dozen donuts for them.
We're not exactly "regulars" but it was fun chilling at Live with Khalil (Stack24) yesterday and agonizing over our fantasy teams.
Dude...being a regular definitely has its perks! Nothing to be ashamed about. Mai's off Milam hooks it up whenever I go. My folks and I used to frequent there every saturday night before midtown blew up around 12 years ago. My parents befriended the lady who works at the register whose also the owner and she's been cool with us ever since. After moving back I would frequent there after nights of drinking in midtown, and the place would be PACKED. I would just cut the line, speak vietnamese to the owner, and boom, we'd get the next table available. Yeah it may seem like a jerk move but I've (well, my folks) been customers since I was kid. And yes, even though it hurts to say that their food isn't as good as it was before, I still make the effort to see them (and abuse the perks they give me like free food and fast service)
Really? I thought Lai Lai's was notable because of the free food and cheap prices. I cant recall ever going there WITHOUT at least getting one extra dish for free (about 20 visitis). Of course it may be different because i am always in a group of at least 5; that way the bill comes out to about five dollars each.
I was a regular at the BW3's in Royal Oaks until we moved a couple months ago. I got to know the bartenders there pretty well and they'd always hook me up with free beers. It feels awesome being a regular....I miss that place.
