No, I don't expect too much response from this... but if you're bored at work, give PolitickerTX a read: http://www.politickertx.com/ For those who haven't read politicker stuff during the election campaign, it's a chain of state-based political news sites owned by The New York Observer. It's in 17 states now (including Texas as of August), and expanding to all 50 in the next two years. Decent combination of full-time reporters generating original stuff on the ground in each state, as well as combing through other blogs for the best of that world. The idea is that as major market newspapers are cutting back bureaus due to budget concerns, there's more of a hole and need for this type of reporting. Why do I mention this? Well, as of this week, I work there based out of Houston. So, if any of you would be kind enough to throw some hits/page views my way now and again, it would really be appreciated. Also, if you ever have story ideas, suggestions or feedback, please don't hesitate to email me and let me know. [/shameless plug]
I'm totally bummed out that Linda Harper-Brown appears to have kept her seat. They should have a recount, IMO. I'm also not crazy that just 61 out of the 231 provisional ballots were accepted. Some people didn't have their votes counted and I bet the majority were Democrats. Still, Democrats get closer and closer to controlling the Texas House. Domination of the Texas Senate got tougher for the GOP, with the gain of one seat by Wendy Davis, and the possibility of Chris Bell picking up another in a runoff. Good news. Would have liked even better news, but Democrats are seeing incremental gains in Texas. We're getting there, one election at a time. Nice site! Thanks for the heads-up and good luck. You have at least one other person interested in Texas politics... me!
