So Brooks threw a lob pass to Yao, who was fronted by Hollins. Yao caught the pass and dunked it. It was a successful play yet we only did this once today. Why can't we try lob passes more? It's worth the risk of a TO considering Yao usually (unfairly) ends up getting a TO via offensive foul when he tries to seal his man anyways. Also, I thought we had fronting solved last year when we had Yao posting up, getting fronted, and then running to the opposite side of the blocks while we swung the ball around the arc and back to him whereby his man would now be pinned behind him. We haven't done much of that this year, if at all. Is it just because our guards are terrible or that we just don't have patience for these types of set plays in our headless chick..I mean motion offense?
Aaron Brooks is too short to lob it at an angle that gets the ball to Yao consistently. In short, AB is a horrible post passer to Yao, and never passes the ball to Yao even when Yao is rolling to the rim in a PnR.
I actually thought about making a thread on this. I think this and a drive and pass is the best way to beat the fronting defense. Though that lob pass quickly brings a double team, but someone has to call that out and Yao has to make a quick pass to the open man usually in the corner. I think this would work really well. Also, another way is for Won to drive hard to basket on the Strong side and after a couple of steps, pass it to Yao. For that, Yao would need to have his man pinned behind him.
lob passes dont work that well cuz even if yao catch the ball, he gets jammed by three players helping inside the key, which as you said usually leads to TO.
first off that brooks lob pass to Yao was passed with incredible accuracy. and the only reason it worked was because kidd or dirk came too late to help. If Dirk was there just a second earlier, it would've been either a TO or a foul on Yao.
Usually when the lob pass is thrown to Yao, he's not deep enough into the post to be able to turn around and dunk it. Instead, he's outside the paint and by the time he catches the ball, he's already entrenched in a double team, and this leaves him susceptible to turning the ball over. Of course if he got far enough into the paint, it'd be nice to see more of those lob passes where he could just turn around and stuff it in.
Someone needs to teach yao how to dunk of an alley. He'd be unstoppable. Quick let's hire Jackie Moon
That was tried but Bass got on the other side and fronted Yao before the ball could be thrown in. I think a inside pick was also used to take out Yao's man; however, that was ineffective.
yao isn't mobile or athletic enough to catch lobs with consistency. the lob is not a revolutionary idea. it's been around as long as there's been organized basketball. you have to think, with all the coaches and all the teammates that yao has had... its not the coaches or players fault for not lobbing the ball to him.
yao is too slow for this to work. my problem is not yao its the team. more times than not yao has position but it seems the rox are slow to get the ball to him. at times it appears that they are scared to pass the ball to yao. why not run the repost play more often?
brooks is the worst start pg in the leagus,no doubt, plz bring us a real pg..he will kill us in playoffs
The lob is a tricky and difficult move to execute with a slow center like Yao. It might work once in a while. Lowry did make a lob once in a game when he joined us,but Yao had some difficulty with gathering the ball. He is not Shaq, who can still dunk on a lob pass.
I wish Yao would share with us his thoughts on fronting defense. Has he ever talked about it in the media? He is the one experiencing it he must have thought of solving it more than any of us. The 4th quarter and so many nights like this, our offense turn to **** when Yao's man fronts him.
