I understand that he has been making a little bit of noise overseas.I also understand that many of you here would like to see him in Rockets red sooner rather than later. I, otoh, feel that the Rockets have moved past the need for Llull. I mean think about it. No matter what happens in FA, we will be set at starting point. For a few years. Wouldn't this somwhat make him obsolete? I highly doubt, at his age(which i believe is 25-26), Llull would want to play a bench role after having the success he has had overseas. So the question is, should we look to trade him now while we can? Do you consider him a valuable trade piece? For a 2nd round pick maybe? Also, do you think that the recent success of Rubio will boost the want around the league for another experienced Euro point?
Not this Summer, but next Summer is the best possible time to bring Sergio over due to his buyout/contract situation. Sergio has it made right now over in Spain and he shouldn't respectfully be asked to come over to the NBA on any team that didnt really have a shot at giving him the starting role. Everyone seems to understand this within the Rockets organization. However, if they strike a major deal involving Lowry this Summer, dont think for a moment that they wont make a call overseas to inquire about coming over this Summer. I think a deal could be had, but it all has to do with what kind of need they have for him, and what is the playing time situation. You look at the Scola/ SA situation as a perfect example of what could happen if the buyout is too large and there isnt the opportunity for playing time. If he doesn't come over by next Summer, I think he's for sure going to be just part of a trade filler going forward if they can move him IMO. Its all about next Summer, and the opportunity that might or might not present itself.
This is only "IF" they cant get a buyout done next Summer. That is key to his future in the NBA or if he's going to choose to try and be an international legend like Scola was for years in Europe. Either way, Llull has to make a huge decision next Summer, and the Rockets have a tough sell on their hands.
But is Llull looking to start or does he understand he'll be backup, albeit with plenty of minutes? (Although he might be the one player Morey won't tell, "You know, we can get you into the D-League. Rio Grande Valley. They speak Spanish down there, although it'll sound a lot different to you, ha ha.") His buyout is extreme, I think 5 million Euros (I'd have to double-check that). As far as trade filler? No, I think he's too valuable for that. The combination of talent and selling tickets is too much. Would Les/Morey offer higher cha-ching to Llull to get him over here now, if they can get a decent return on Lowry?
Some people in Europe think this guy is better than Rubio. We have to at least give him a shot here in 2013 to see what we have.
Right, right. It's just that NJ, either way, has nothing to offer us. Now, say, if CHARLOTTE should miss out on the #1 pick.....or some such team....
I cant remember, dont know his exact words, but IF he is demanding to start, this is a red flag to me. If he just wants playing time, and doesnt want to come just to sit at the end of the bench, that is understandable.
Charlotte doesn't have anything we need player wise. I also doubt they would trade their top 4 pick for #14 & #16.
I'd really like to see him brought over to play the 6th man role. He seems like someone who could be our Manu or Harden. Assuming we trade Lowry and Martin; Llull could get back up minutes at the 1 and 2. Dragic/ Llull Lee/ Llull Parson/ Bud / Morris Scola / Patterson / Motie Camby / Motie That's without taking into consideration of any of our draft picks and acquired players from the Draft. Our team is way too stacked, I think we definitely should package Lowry/Martin/Our Draft Picks + maybe another rotation player (Scola or Patterson / Bud or Morris) and get that star whether it's in the draft or not.
Llul's value lies in "Insurance". Kevin Martin and Lowry in my opinion will get traded soon, Courtney Lee is coveted around the league and that is some thing that should be taken into account when his contract is up next year we might not be able to bring him back. Having Llul is a great thing for us he would be a quality and inexpensive replacement.
what are your opinions on a llull/dragic starting back court? dragic has shown that he can share the court with other guards like lowry and lee, who can both play PG. having a double threat at PG has been a trend the rockets have been using since brooks/lowry and has been shown to be one of our most effective lineups. throw martin in with the lowry trade and get something sexy back. llull/some pg dragic/lee parsons/bud scola/donuts camby/dalembert
