Yao did have trouble with Boris Diaw earlier this year, the Suns "center" who is about a foot shorter than Ming is, so I guess that counts ... Here's the rest of the article
That's an important point to be made. Despite his lack of offense at times, his man is never the one that beats us.
Dont know why but it seems like since Frachise's era, quick and atheltic guards are the one always burned the rockets. Last season, this season still no exception.....
not to be mean but . . . J O'neal is the only one with some offensive game I think this points out how sad the Center Spot is these day Rocket River
Nenad is averaging 13.5 pts a game. Most of the others have no offensive game but they do shoot around 50% in their limited shot attempts. Liz Robbins still is completely offbase with her saying the opposing center lit us up. None of those players went off for season highs or even above average.
Zaza Pachulia is averaging 12 ppg and had 19 last night against the Spurs. He's actually a decent offensive player.
RR: Perhaps so, but: (1) The point of the thread is that her assertion was wildly inaccurate, not that Yao's particularly great at shutting anyone down (2) He held almost all of them below their season averages.
I understand that an it is inaccurate . . .yao is Decent to GOOD defensively ON HIS MAN . . his help D. . could be better but hell when speedy Guards are getting around our guards at will I dunno if Hakeem could stop them all However. . . my point was. . d*mn . . I'm glad we have YAO cause those other guys suck *ss Rocket River
How many centers are there that average over 20 points a game? Not very many. That doesnt say much about Yao's defese overall but just because he "holds" his man to under 20 doesnt mean he played good defense.
About Kelley's list, not everyone on there is quick and athletic, they're just all smaller than Yao Ming. Particularly Dampier, Battie, and Wright. Wright used to be quick. So did Battie. Now they are old.
The centers on the above list are averaging around 6-7 points a game against him. That's is way under 20 points and way below there season averages. What the hell would make some people happy here? Yao consistently outrebounds and outscores his counterpart. Oh but he's 7'6" - so that that's not good enough and he sucks and he has a vagina and he's Chinese so he's meek and timid. Let's trade him for Kelvin Cato. He plays more like a MAN.
They were the closest I could find to the "smaller, more athletic centers" that Robbins contends Yao has "failed to defend." Just because they aren't showcasing Rickey Green-like skills in the pivot overall, it doesn't mean that they aren't smaller than Yao, or in most cases quicker and more athletic in terms of end-to-end speed. The only bigs that have held their own against Yao this year, statistically, would be Brad Miller (twice) and Diaw.
