I'm just wondering what the consensus of the Houstonians on this board is. Currently, I live inside the Beltway (290 and 43rd) and work outside the Beltway (Greenspoint). That will change within the year when I move to Kingwood and (hopefully) get a teaching job. Kingwood is the bomb, and I don't care what any of you inner-loop snobs say.
I work on Montrose and will able to walk to my job from my new apartment! Awesome. The only negative is that the neighborhood is... well. I live around the corner from Black Hawk Leather and Video.
it depends on where you live and how much you can afford. there are plenty of great neighborhoods near the city that, imo, are much mroe attractive than the burbs - Heights, West U., Spring Valley, Memorial, Bellaire. these areas have everything Kingwood has and more, given location relative to theatre, sporting events and all sorts of other things. the main advantage for the burbs is cost of living. you can get more house and lot for considerably less. the second advantage could be distance to out of town weekend trips. Obviously, if you live out towards Brenham or Katy, you'd save 30 minutes on trips to Austin, or if you lived in Clear Lake, you'd be a lot closer to Galveston. Oh, and the burbs are generally closer to more and better golf courses.
Live basically outside beltway all my life. Right now I'm right on the edge of beltway and briarforest. My work has always been in Galleria or even downtown area.
Uhh...I don't work right now as I'm a student at UT, so I put inside/inside. I hope that doesn't mess up your scientific study.
i grew up in the suburbs. never, never, again. it's either the city or the countryside for me. suburbia is culture kill decorated with pseudo nature motifs, no thanks.
I live in Clear Lake, work in Houston. I grew up in Clear Lake but just happened to end up back there because my future wife was teaching in Galveston County when I moved away from school. CL is the only suburb in Houston I would want to live in. I like being around NASA, the water, and being close to Galveston. I have family here and a couple of friends. If I had to move in the Houston area I would move closer into town I guess. If not I would try to move to the San Leon area. I really hate the newer suburbs. I was driving around Surgarland the other day and I could not stand being there at all. There is no way in hell I could live there. It just aint my style.
ha, beltway 8 I don't leave loop 610 for any reason other than maybe shopping within a mile of the west loop
dont lie.... you love that place. and even though that part of town has a much deserved reputation, it's a great area.... tons of restaraunts and shops.... very urban. and it's only gonna get better, trust me.... lots of cool developments going up.
agree 110%. to hell with suburbia.... after living in tarrytown right outside of downtown austin, i knew i could never do the suburban life again. i live and work right outside the loop in the uptown/memorial/galleria (whatever you want to call it) area, and am about as far outside the west loop as i ever want to get. i could, however, move out to a nice place out in the country on a good piece of land.
I must live somewhere near ima. Just outside 610. I'm pretty happy with Oak Forest. ima, ever eat at Forno's (290 and 43rd)? I love that place. I work at home so, that makes me inner-beltway for both.
I live right outside the beltway, in Westchase. I work in the galleria area. In the next year or so I want to sell the house and move closer to work. The only thing holding me back is the cost of buying a house in this area.
