ok... all the single people who live alone... are you a clean freak, clean for company, or are you just flat out a slob? it's gotten to the point where i clean up every couple of weeks, but generally after the first few days of it being clean, it gets back to the state it was when it looked as if... well... i have no words for it. a couple of pics below. one of my coffee table and one of my mcdonald's filet-o-fish container ashtray that i've been using for the past week and a half. btw... those filet-o-fish sandwiches never get old. mmmmm.... do any of you have the habit of being being lazy and not cleaning up?
Getting married is what turned me into a clean freak. My wife does not do much cleaning at all and 4 people (we have 2 kids) can make quite a mess. So about a year ago I decided I hated living in a dirty house all the time so now everyday after I get home I spend about 1 hour cleaning anything that needs to be cleaned. It makes me feel a lot better now that everything is very clean I can't go back to having a messy home all the time.
Clean for company, I guess. I sometimes have guitar equipment, recording equipment, CDs and LPs laying about in my den, and sometimes my dinner table looks more like a desk (especially during bill paying time) than a dinner table, but I mop/swiffer my floors every week, keep my bathrooms clean, and I don't leave trash or fast food wrappers/bags on my countertop or coffee table. Two or three times a year I pay Merry Maids $75 to do a number on my house.
I've always been a -tidy- freak. I like everything organized, trash picked up, never more than a day worth of dishes in the sink, etc, but it doesn't have to be sanitized to a point where I can do open-heart surgery. Just neat. I can't tell you what made me that way, but I was like that when I was single, too. Your friends might not mind the trash, but I can guarantee you that if you bring any girls home you get them in the sack more often if your home is tidy.
I was a slob in college, because I didn't really own anything of value. Once I was able to get nicer stuff, I started taking much better care of it.
getting married didnt really change me. men just dont see dirt like women do. that was the second lesson i learnt after getting hitched the first? women actually can fart!
I don't like living in filth...How can you get some play in a sloppy house... I have OCD tendancies...I clean up a little everyday, and do the major cleaning like floors, toliets, etc every two weeks...It's only me and I like being clean...
I am in this exact same situation. If I were to stop cleaning every day we would have a very dirty house within a week.
The only thing worse than having a messy wife is having one that claims she's a neat freak when she's clearly not. I'll clean the kitchen, do the dishes, windex the coffee table, etc., and a day later, it's messy from all her ****. I made a point the other day just to clean my half of the bathroom. When she asked why, I told her to wait a day. Sure enough, my side was dirty again because of all her make-up and ****.
I've never been a neat freak, and I prefer a "moderation" approach (RocketMan Tex has the best example so far), but I try not to let my friends see anything like what was in the pictures at the beginning of this thread. I don't even want to see it myself, though sometimes it will sit there like that for a few days if I'm busy and only coming home to sleep. I'm trying to build better habits because my ex was awful about it... and I know he could technically read this board if he wanted to, not that I think he is, but let's just say his house now has several different bad smells in it, parts of the bathroom are clean and others are filthy, and... having a pet involves more cleanup responsibility, or at least it should, but some people don't completely clean that stuff up. Now, I keep a clean apartment with a plug-in air freshener. I still have piles of stuff lying around sometimes, but I try not to let them get too bad. It's just clutter (books or papers or clean clothes); I clean up all food, etc. People do see it, anyway; I'll have someone over at least every few days. Actually I have a friend who usually cleans things up for me. That works.
I live with my sister and our house gets messy but I try to clean up as soon as possible. I hate a messy place.
Walk it off. on a side note, I was an extreme neat and clean freak in highschool and my younger years, I have turned into a slob in college.
I'm a clean freak. I regularly keep my room clean and do the dishes so they won't pile up. This year our apartment was the model apartment (which meant people would come in and look around randomly to see the floor plan and if they wanted to live here). I constantly got comments that my room was the cleanest room they had seen in college. I just think some of the filth that my college buddies live in is disgusting. I couldn't imagine bringing a girl back your room to hook up when you have dirty clothes and food from 3 weeks ago lying all over the place.
Isabel? When did you make a come back? This came to mind: "My G*D! Look at this work station...!!!!!" - cleaning Dennis' desk Anyway... here at the office, when someone cleans up their desk (when usually they have it like a PIGSTY), the first thing I say is "family coming over to see your office, huh?" Good times.
As a single guy, I always keep the place Danny Tanner clean. I try to live free of clutter and unneccessary paperwork. It's a major party foul if you have a girl over at your place while it looks like crap. And it's really important to keep the bathroom clean. Chicks tend to freak out when they see a dirty mirror or hair on the bathroom floor.
