For us out-of-towners, is there a live audio link so we can listen to 610? All we can get is pre-loaded .mp3s of today. Just wondering if it is somewhere on the site, or if it is coming soon...
We, and all other Infinity radio stations are still fighting with corporate to make this happen. Trust me, as soon as we are, this board will be the first to know. On a separate note did anyone catch my Stern song NATIONWIDE on the Stern show this and yesterday morning? That was pretty cool... Chance
Currently, there's no "official" weblink for SR610. There's the audio vault on the website, but eh. As good of a radio station SR610 is, their website sucks. Can we trade that website for Moochie? Hopefully they get one soon, so you unlucky out-of-towners can listen to the great job that Chance has done.
Thanks, Chance. It sucks to hear all the guys in the GARM posting..."Heard on 610 that CD is going to get Shaq" and the out-of-towners are like, "What the hell? ESPN is so damn slow w/ the news..." But we'll be patient...
I tried to listen to Howard this AM, but I'm too friggin' addicted to the 610 Morning Show to change. I'm gonna stick with the morons and trailor wheel and frame commercials. Much more entertaining.
Chance, Is the issue the broadcasting of commercials that is preventing this from coming to fruition? I know that ESPN radio and 1300 KVET sports talk in Austin had problems with the legal issues behind broadcasting commercials via the Internet. KVET almost had to shut down b/c of it.
Chance - heard the song - that was you? I think Stern even made a comment about the song today. I'm surprised that the "oh my God he's coming/I think I'm coming" line at the end made it in there, lol. Sorry to say, but after 30 minutes of John & Lance rehashing the same old tired Astros crap, Stern was like a breath of fresh air. Vandermeer is also near intolerable now - it's sad when you think Jeremy Foster does a better job with a radio show than the "Voice of the Texans." And I know Another Brother is a member of this board and all, but his weekly thing is r****ded. His opinion on any matter relating to sports is completely irrelevant. Some of his references/takes to pop culture stuff are good, but I don't EVER wanna have to hear a random BBS poster's half-baked opinion on a sports item on the radio. It's like having to listen to an hour long call-in take... If you're gonna do that you might as well pull random posters off of the GARM every week. Same thing. Baaaaaddd sports radio... 610 is lucky to have Rich & Charlie...
Damn Rocket, I totally feel the opposite about all your takes. Jeremy Foster does a better job with a radio show then Marc? Jeremy is only good a un-intentional humor. Another Brother on the show is great IMO. Brings something different to the show and the humor is off the charts usually. But then again, I am not really a Stern fan at all, so seems we are coming from totally different places.
I agree. I just can't get excited about the morning show. There are only so many times I can stand to hear Granato say [insert midwestern accent here] 'How good is THAT'??. Matt Jackson is Jim Rome 'Lite'. I switch over sometimes at night and think "Oh crap, the radio transmitter must be down because there is all of this 'dead' air".....turns out it's just one of Matt's 'Rome-esque' pregnant pauses that seem to last about 18 seconds. Charlie is not everyone's cup of tea, either. I do, however, think he's the best and most knowledgeable radio host we have. He's not a blindly allegiant homer. He'll be objective and essentially tell it like it is. I don't always enjoy hearing the home team getting ripped, even though the criticisms might be legitimate. However, you know he's not on anyone's 'payroll' and he's not going to be a shill for anybody. I like and respect that. Rich.....well, he seems content with sitting back and concurring with the vast majority of Charlie's opinions, save for the few times he ventures out on a limb just to be contrarian.
I know the Dallas sports radio station 1310 The Ticket have internet broadcast and they have diffrent ads on the internet then they do over the air because when an ad comes on. The player and the ad just says "just click the button on your screen now" or something along that lines. and as far as SR610 in Houston and SR1310 in Dallas. You know I love Houston I love my city but 610 is like listening to static compared to 1310. They go local at 5:00AM and stay local till 12:00AM and thier shows are planned out, they know what they are going to be talking about and when, and they talk about thier subject for 10 min or so, then they take calls on that subject, then move on to the next etc etc. But when I listen to 610, thier shows seem like there just "winging" it, they dont really know what there going to talk about before the show, they just take random calls as they come. Its like 1 sec they talk Rockets, then next Astros, then next Texans, then back to Astros, then back to Texans. and I just cant understand why they cant talk about 1 thing at a time, get it over with and move on to something else. The only real good person they have up there is Matt Jackson. He does a great job with the 5th quarter Rockets recap or what ever there calling it now. and he cracked me up when he said before a Rocket vs Clippers game "What ever team wins is the one Im picking up at the airport" and a few days ago he banned Astro talk
Like I said, Another Brother is okay when they are talking about The Love Boat or some pop culture/music/comedy stuff, but when Vandermere starts asking AB his opinion on sports events/news, etc. I wanna pull my freaking hair out. Nothing against him personally, but his opnion is no more valid than, well yours for that matter, and it certainly makes for bad SPORTS radio. I would be all for giving AB his own show on 650. It IS supposed to be "Hot Talk" right? Give AB his own sort of pop culture commentary show for an hour or two. THAT would be fun. It just doesn't work on 610. I don't need Vandermere talking about why the 'Stros middle relief sucks for 30 seconds, then seguing into how hot the chicks on OC are... It's SPORTS Radio 610, not the Sam Malone Show on freakin' 104... Then again, I also don't need Granato tearing into a caller after they dare criticize his beloved Uncle Drayton, but that's at least sports related.
How about somebody puts a computer mic near their radio, and have it stream over some kind of program that allows voice convos.
Winamp has a plugin that allows you to do that. I did that once with a basketball game. WHOOO the big 6000 post count!
I don’t listen to John & Lance anymore. During last years basketball season they rarely talked about the Rockets. Both of them seem to be huge football fans, which is why most of the talk is geared toward football. You can tell by the amount of time that they spend talking about the Rockets and the direction that the show goes into when the do, that they are forcing themselves to talk about a subject that they are not interested in. It’s a shame because I find them both really talented. I’m not the first person to bring this up. There have been other callers that have called in and complained about this very subject. John & Lance usually respond with the fact that the callers can pick the topic. While this is true, not many people are going to call in and break up the main conversation. If John & Lance are heavily into a football conversation that they are getting excited about, who is going to call in and break the flow of the show? I like having Another Brother on Vandermere’s show. He adds a something different to the show. Obviously, he is not going to be a sports expert. It’s not like he spends most of his day researching sports news, so his sports opinion needs to be taken with a grain of salt. He does add a little humor to the show and I would much rather listen to him than a callers. Rich & Charlie are fun to listen to and they cover the major sports equally. They are my favorites in local radio, they both play well off of each other. Mike and Mike in the Morning out of New York is my favorite sports show. They should be the standard of all sports personalities.
