80 for blocks? Then no one else should be over 70, because Hakeem's the greatest shot blocker in the history of the league. What do you mean by free throws aren't automatic? ------------------
Everything I read on EB's site said it sucked big willy. Any comments from those that play it? No franchise mode is an instant strike for me. ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. it doesnt have franchise mode??? that is the only reason why nba live 2000 is good. are you sure it doesnt have franchise mode? what about the one for the regular playstation? ------------------ http://www.democrats.com
I'm sure it doesn't have franchise mode (at least that's what 2 of my friends have told me; both of whom have the game). Some other stuff I've heard is that the ball physics sucks. Blocked shots are ridiculously high. Offensive rebounding may be exaggerated. Then again I've heard that the stats in most cases are realistic; especially in "All Star" mode. I'm still debating getting this one. I still love Madden. ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. My friend got it and said its terrible. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams fan club. Web site coming soon atheistalliance.org
Yeah, it dosen't have a franchise mode, or a practice mode. Then again, is that really that bad? I feel the franchise mode on Madden because the season is 16 games, then you're ready for another one. I don't think I would be playing back-to-back-to back 82 game seasons. The blocked shots are too easy, especially for the CPU if they have a good defender. Garnett was rejecting the old Hakeem like he was a b**** or something. As far as the free-throws, they were automatic for me in the old games, no matter if i was shooting with Shaq or Hornacek. You could also be off a little and it would still go in. Not in this game though. If your guy can't shoot freebies, and you're off a tad, then he will miss. One thing I do like is the game finally keeps track of turnovers, for a game and even a season. The stats are a lil more realistic because it now takes me 12 full minutes to get over a 100 ppg. It isn't the greatest game ever made, and I'm not jocking it like I was Madden. However, if you have Live for the PS1 or any other games that you won't be playing, then it is worth trading it in to a place like Funcoland and buying the new one for around $30. That's what I did. ------------------

You can get NBA2K1, the best ball game ever made at Target right now for a mere $20 bucks. Shenmue and Ecco the Dolphin as well. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Crisco pimpin' his console. Hey did you guys hear about XBox being able to play Dreamcast games? Or is that old news and I'm just late to the party? Or is that just a flat out lie? ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. Yeah DooD, and I truly believe it too I'm not sure bout the XBox. I saw something like that somewhere ... there is always so many rumors it's hard to keep track of. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Why can't someone make a basketball game with player contracts needing to be signed and resigned, player retirements, realistic player ratings(I'm sorry peeps but Dream won't be a top ten player at the age of 47 AARRRGGGGGHHHHHH),and god forbid a freakin draft. I've been a loyal live player since '97 and I'm seriously thinking Dreamcast after what I've heard about live 2001.Does 2k1 for dreamcast have any of the things I listed above if so which ones? One thing I'm dreading is is having to reshape my arthritic riddled hands to fit a new controller Please hit me back if you have the answers to any of my questions. ------------------
It has all those things and semi-realistic trades(inc draft pick trades). Stats change too as the Franchise progresses. Stevie usually starts out at 88 but ends up 99, as does Cuttino after a few years. The names of the drafted players get a little weird after a while though, like Kobe Stoyachvich and Jermaine Collier and other such nonesuch! ------------------ snap crackle pop
John Olajuwon. A white 6-4 shooting guard. Right. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
2K1 is probably the best basketball game ever. Only problem is: No one can shoot. There are many nights where Walt Williams and Matt Bullard go 1-20 from behind the arc. See, the game is TOO realistic. There are a few sound glitches too. It also gets too easy to win even on all-star mode after a while. Its still the best though. I just wish the teams would celebrate on the court after winning back-to-back-to-back-to-back titles. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
It's true that many gaming sites have been critical and somewhat negative in their reviews of NBA Live 2001 for the PlayStation 2. According to some people who work for Electronic Arts (the developer of the game), the PS2 version of NBA Live 2001 was rushed. If they had more time, perhaps they could have included features like a franchise mode, practice mode, etc. There are 2 reasons for the game being rushed: (a) The PS2 is a difficult hardware to program on, and thus only the most dedicated and talented developers will be able to completely master the architecture and get the most out of the system. Such dedication takes a lot of time and patience...and since EA makes and publishes a lot of games (e.g. Madden, NBA Live, their NHL series, their FIFA Soccer series, SSX, and so on) on a yearly basis they don't really have the patience. Not to mention that all of those franchises are made for multiple consoles. (b) They wanted to get the game out before the NBA All-Star break, most likely for marketing purposes. I do expect their next iteration of NBA Live (i.e. NBA Live 2002) to be much better in many aspects...visuals, sound, features, gameplay, etc. since by then they'll have more experience and be more comfortable with the PS2 hardware. BTW, regarding that DCoaC (Dreamcast chip) in the Xbox rumor....for the time being that is nothing more than a rumor initially started by Gamers.com, and frankly I'm a little skeptical of its validity....partly because there have been so many conflicting rumors lately from various sources regarding the future of Sega that I don't know what to believe. In any case, we'll know for sure by either the Tokyo Game Show (can't recall the date(s) for that event, I'm thinking March...) or E3 (major technological event which is being held in May in Los Angeles) whether this is true or not. If it is, that might just convince me to grab an Xbox Now that's just messed up. ------------------
NBa Jam 99 has contract resignings(N64) as well as draft(i wish that they could go online and get real college prospects) IMO, Live is still the best basketball series. ------------------ President of the Charles Barkley fan club...Oh he retired? When?
SSG, talkin about 2K1. you can also download current rosters from the net and play 1-1, 2-2, whatever streetball. The set plays are cool. It isn't perfect though. As ZRB mentioned, it is hard to make 3s, esp in regular season mode(though I can hit them pretty well with Bull, Wiz sucks even in the game). And the internet stuff does have a little lag that mite throw you off your game a little, but I mostly just play with my friends or by myself. But this is the best ball game I have ever played. Anyone remember when NBA JAM was all the rage? BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA!!!!! ------------------ snap crackle pop [This message has been edited by CriscoKidd (edited January 29, 2001).]
cc.net users who also have 2k1 should play online sometime. that would be tight. nba 2k1 is the best bball game for any system right now. I just cant get my dreamcast internet deal to work because i dont have all that info. help anyone??? ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
