I need the power of this mighty BBS. My son's Little League team is playing for the City Championship tonight. He's 12 years old, so this will be his last LL game ever. I need everyone to send positive vibes to 1) keep the rain away!, and 2) propel the Indians on to victory! C'mon, ClutchFans, lets hear it! Go Indians! Anybody else have any good LL stories?
Loved LL. Lots of lessons to be learned from losing and winning. Lots of friends made. Just a great time.
I played on a team from the Washington DC area. We were three outs from going to the LLWS in 1974, but we lost the game in the bottom of the last inning. Talk about a bunch of crying babies!
What city? My team won the Baytown city championship when I was all of 8. I still have very find memories of that. Good luck to your son.
Actually, this is his last regular season game. He'll be playing on the All Star team after this. As to whether they make it that far, we'll have to wait and see. They haven't gotten out of district ever before though.
League City His team won the city championship when he was 10, but this is the major league, the 12 year olds, the top team in all of LCLL.
Go Indians!!! I was never a great LL player. Great fielder, but very tentative at the plate. My funniest memory is watching two straight HRs sail over my head in the bottom of the seventh (only played 7th inning) as we lost our only game after being ahead by one run with two outs. I didn't move an inch in the two plays, except for my head watching the ball. My best play was snagging a line drive at second with my bare hand. Hurt like hell, but it was in the championship game, so the pain wasn't too noticeable.
I pitched and I took some horrible abuse from some racist fans at the Alabama Little League State Championship up in Huntsville all the way back in 1980!!!!! Some in the crowd asked why the Mobile team needed a gook pitcher... I later went 2-1 in regionals, with my loss coming in the do or die game that would have sent us to the LLWS. I gave up four hits in that game, the best outing I enjoyed the entire regionals, but the 4th scored a runner on third....1-0. Only bad pitch I really threw all game. I cried like a little girl.
I was horrible in little league. Only played one year though. I played rightfield due to my horrible fielding skills, and batted around 6th in the order. One game I was a HR short of a cycle though, which was pretty awesome.
Definently send the good vibes towards him. I remember when i was in LL and i won the championship in my division it was a great feeling.
LL is just another reason why I don't want kids. These days kids sports are way too parent involved. I work for a sign shop and these parents have to have expensive signs made etc. It is way too overboard. Just let them play ball and have fun. Stay out of it M&D! And what is up with the parents who have to go watch their kids at PRACTICE. If my mom or dad came to all my practices I would of killed them. This is their time mom, not yours, stay home. I was on the Bombers (not an MLB team or logo), and we were the 1977 NASA Area Little League 5-Pitch Champions.
Hear is my LL stat line from our worst year (Royals #00) Pitching 0.0 IP- 3 BB- 1 H- 1 R Fielding: starting 2B- 88 games- 0 Errors Batting: .224 BA-0 HR-1 2B-0 3b 6 RBI 52 SB Team Record: 2-86 or worse. You lose track of the losses. Our worst loss: 25-2 Keep in Mind I was soccer player from England. My Little league days were numbered.
I threw a no-hitter when I was 12 . Sadly that was the peak of my entire athletic career to date. They still have Indians in Little League? How un-PC. Go! Indigenous Americans
I played for a city championship once and made the all-star team once in my three years of playing baseball(The first year being my first experience with baseball ever), and I agree with Mr. Meowgi. Parents who are involved in practice(Actually helping out...throwing balls, coaching, etc...), well that's cool. Parents who just show up to watch? They just need a hobby. Parents who are constantly yelling at coaches/umps? They just need to stay home. And baseball seems to be the only sport in which this is prevalent. Good luck to your son, BTW. Please keep all yelling positive and directed away from the ump/coach.
Sorry, I just had to deal with Hell Baseball moms when I made all the sponsor signs for the NASA Area Little League field. Plus, little Tyler, Taylor, and the six Jordans on his team all need matching banners and stickers for their SUVs. Eccch, barf, etc.
Exactly, my dad coached for years. Assistant coaches are great too. But we all rode our bikes to practice (with no helmets), and there were no obsessed, freaked out moms there watching thier kids every move. I think parents wanted their kids out of the house for a while... But good luck to your son bamma, sorry I picked this thread to vent some work-related stress. I'll be quiet now.
