Well, today is the first day of Little League All Star tournaments, anyone else have a kiddo or two playing? Also, what to expect, this is our first year doing it, and from what I hear it can be every weekend through July. Hopefully not that long. So far, it is my youngest son playing T-Ball, and there is a huge difference now in teamates, as everyone can catch and throw and he is loving it. Our team won the championship on a walk off from my son......and the worst part? I was in London and didn't see any of it....... Dang.... So, who else is doing Little League all stars......man or woman up and toss a shout out to your little leaguer !! Congrats to all the kids and parents who made the All Stars and are putting in the time to take them to all these tourneys ! DD
Nah, just a shout out to all the parents who are going through the same stuff, it is a lot of time. 3 practices a week, 4 games on the weekend, 1 more on Monday......and it is every weekend. Last year we spent weekends at the lake..... EP
yep...with my 9 year old playing kid-pitch baseball...been doing it nearly every day since last Friday. We had a practice or game everyday from last Friday through last Wednesday...2 days off....won a game this morning, so potentially 2 games tomorrow morning. it's very hot outside. fortunately, i'm not coaching an all star team.
Got my 8 year old in POny League All stars we don't play our tourney until July 4th. We are practicing MWF and every other Sun until then.
Lost game 2, 16-10, we are seeded 4th going into the real tournament tomorrow. We play a team from our league first, then if we win that another local team, and if we win that...championship game on Monday. DD
Today, we won the first one 20-14, and then lost the 2nd one 15-10..... In the 2nd one we had 4 atem balls....where our kids ripped em right to the other team. We are now in the 3rd place game tomorrow night...or the consolation game. Not bad...not bad at all....fun..but tiring. DD
Why? It is not playoffs, we already had that, and our team won the championship 21-20 in the last at bat, very thrilling. This is All-Stars, where we travel to tournaments on the weekend, and you qualify for state or nationals. Our team is all about the fun, there are much more serious ones than ours...with set rotations etc, we move our kids around and cheer them on....my son loves it. Nothing wrong with good wholesome competition. DD
we did it...i don't think anyone of us was really hurt by the experience. depending on how the parents/coaches act, i don't see why this would necessarily have to be a bad thing.
You know, getting kids outside and into good healthy activities and competition is much better than having them inside watching TV or playing video games.... Lots of lessons to be learned about life out there, how to handle winning, how to handle losing, and at the end of the day none of these games matter one iota. It is just a chance to share some fun times with your family, other families and their kids...and enjoy the outdoors and sports. I think it is the American way....and most of the players are 6 and 7....we do have a young 5 year old developmental all star team....but again...just for fun. DD
We won tonight in the 3rd place game, 21-15, the two teams we lost to are playing in the championship game, and I think we can take them with if things break right for us. Great weekend, but again, I had to miss the big game because of work, am in LA for E3.... Oh well back on Thursday. DD
I think it's great for kids to be outside playing baseball and other activities. I just don't think 5-7 year olds need to be "learning lessons" about life. How do you think the 5-7 year olds who were on the losing end of the 21-20 "thrilling" victory felt? Are these tournaments and playoffs for the kids or the parents?
i doubt they felt that upset depending on how the parents act. my niece plays in a competitive softball league for 12-13 year-olds here in katy. they went undefeated in the regular season, only to lose their first playoff game by 1 run. they went on to have an awesome team party later that afternoon. dadakota doesn't seem like the type of parent who would make this anything but an enjoyable experience for the kids. i'm not sure why you're giving him such a hard time about this.
