I love how we have 2 GM's in this town that are committed to finding and developing young talent

I remember how much fun and fulfilling it was watching those Astros teams in the 90's

When the Texans start winning it will be mainly with our guys through the draft

Right now we have a very good Rockets team and 60% of the starters are on their 1 and only NBA team and Hayes/Landry off the bench are as well

than throw in Lowery and Wafer being young

I hope Wade hits on some of these picks and Drayton does not make him trade them away for Vets

I really hope Jason Castro works out. Most experts say we reached a lot on that pick and that there were several better players available. I know we needed an upgrade at catcher but I don't know if we were in a position to be drafting for need over drafting superior talent.

And hopefully a couple of the pitchers we grabbed later in that last draft will turn out to be good picks.

I think the biggest factor to having refreshing GMs with an eye towards the future is the OWNER. Both the Texans and the Rockets have owners who are willing to be progressive if it translates to wins in the end. Les Alexander showed a lot of vision by taking a chance and hiring Daryl Morey to be the GM, even though he's only in his 30s. And it seems to me like Bob McNair is from the same mold as Alexander.....willing to do whatever it takes to put a winning product on the field. I think he did a LOT of learning about what NOT to do when he hired Casserly and Co. to run the team for the first 5 years. He's decided to take a step back in the Smith/Kubiak regime, and let the football guys do their jobs. McLane however still seems like he's far too involved on a day-to-day basis with the dealings of Astros personnel moves. He still hasn't shown the willingness to spend money in the right spots (pitching and farm system) and it's obvious that he feels like hitting is the way to win, and he's really handcuffing Wade in his player transactions. Just my 2 cents.....

Draft grades are dumb right after the draft. Everyone was ripping the texans for not drafting bush and it turned out good. Everyone is ripping the raiders for picking heyward-bey. Maybe he turns out great, no one really knows. Have to wait a few years.

"and Brice has 4.33 speed." lol thats cool, but like no other team drafted like that. There's 4.3 guys that dont even get drafted.

    I'll take consistent B+ drafts.
