1)Jason Kidd... He's just the best 2) Gary Payton....The Glove, enough said 3) Steve Francis.... Just because he had injuries last year doesn't knock the fact he's the new age point guard. (And I'm not being a homer) 4) Steve Nash.... This kid is nice! Has proven to be more than a 3 point jacker. Has a knack for making things happen. 5) Andre Miller....Dre came into his own last year, will move up in coming years. 6) Baron Davis... Was a toss up between Baron and Dre, but Dre got my vote......this time! Baron has to be more consistent. 7) Stockton..... I know this seems high, but he still makes things happen. He often embarrassed the young PG's when he faced them last year. 8) Sam Cassell..... E.T. is crafty and has the art of confusing his opponent mastered. A streaky shooter that knows how to get his shot off. 9) Stephon Marbury.....Selfish but sick. Has always had the ability to score at will, but just can't seem to make the team he's on better. 10) Tony Parker....I know some of you might not agree, but this kid will be a force in a couple of years. Has all the right tools to be a top five PG in this league.
1)Jason Kidd- Proven he is hte best 2)Gary Payton- Right up there with Kidd 3)Andre Miller- Proved he could score last year to go with his passing 4tie) Baron Davis and Steve Francis- Both will probably be one two in a year or two. Very exciting guys with similar games. 6) Terrell Brandon- injured alot but a great player 7)Sam Cassell- I love the guy. Clutch player. 8)Stephon Marbury- Great scorer and somehow racks up assists. 9)Steve Nash- Has become a much better player. Not a big fan but he produces 10)John Stockton .
A Better question might be, List the guys in the draft that will make the biggest impact next year or another would be the guys in the draft that will be the best in 5 years. if you are interested i would love to hear
1.Jason Kidd...inconsistent w/his J,and he gets beat off the dribble sometimes. That being said he's a leader,a coach on the floor. That motor never stops just like the sweet silver platter jobs he delivers to his teammates. 2.The Glove...He's lost a bit,but Gary Payton just out of his prime is better than almost anybody. 3.Andre Milller.....another guy who will pass Payton and Kidd in my opinion....plays an all around game and has a high basketballl IQ...sees the court very well 4.Steve Francis..The only reason I don't have Steve up at the top is that I think he needs to have better court awareness(overall understanding of the game,he needs to let it come to him)and his defense is sorely lacking. Also,I'm still not convinced that Steve isn't a square peg being fitted into a round hole.I would like to see him have free reign from the two, sort of like AI,but not as much freedom to jack at will.I'd like to have a bigger point guard to go with him to guard the twos.I know Cat is probably not going anywhere, but this is a wish list.I really like the drafting of Tito. 5.Tony Parker...amazing maturity at 19..sees the court, can knock down the j,take it to the hoop...I love this guy,a real player. He'll be at or near the top very soon. 6.Stephon Marbury..has reigned in his game and it's paying dividends. 7.Steve Nash...can knock it down and thread the needle, sees the whole court, lacking on D 8.Baron Davis...I have him this low for now,but he will be in the elite evetually...similiar to Steve in many ways, esp. in that he needs to run the team better. 9.Sam Cassell...enough said..we know Sam I am 10.John Stockton...knows every trick in the book and even at the end is a great floor general. I left out Mike Bibby......This guy I would put right w/Parker.
1) payton and kidd - hard to seperate the 2. jason's a better passer but if i had any point guard for just one year to win a championship, it'd be payton. maybe i just seperated 'em. 2) francis and davis - davis has shown he can ball in the playoffs but i have no doubt steve has the heart to lead a team even further when healthy. skill-wise they are very similar. 3)steve nash - he's like a robot, doesn't ever get tired and nails clutch 3 after clutch 3. not the most gifted athlete but he can hit a layup in traffic over anybody. 4)mike bibby - i can't believe i forgot him. put up decent numbers on a horrible team, but exploded in the playoffs with the kings. has a money jumpshot. 5)terrell brandon - when he's healthy, he's a better version of andre miller. he's an equal passer and a far better shooter. i'm probably biased because he tears the rockets up. 6)andre miller - will become a top 5 pg, but he is way overhyped. can become an all-star many times and is a great piece to a contender, but is not a corner stone like the top 4. the best pure pg currently playing. 7)stephon marbury - labeled as selfish, not sure if he is or not. he is as talented as any player in the game but i don't think he'll ever be a winner. he could make the right team very dangerous. 8)john stockton - one of the best ever and still strong. i hate his guts so that's all i'll say. 9)sam cassell - the extra terrestrial is cocky and clutch, how can you not like him?
1. Payton- still the top dog 2. Kidd- only player that can go 0-10 and still impact the game 3a.Davis - Bulldog and steps up in the playoffs 3b.Francis- Impact the games with athleticism, maturity is only concern. 3c. Miller- Runs the point flawless, just wish more people could see him. 6. Nash- Very heady, makes very difficult shots 7. Marbury- Puts up numbers but teams doesn't win. 8. Bibby-Shame, that people didn't see him until he got to Sacremento. 9. Cassell- Sly and slick. Ultimate clutch performer who has never been appreciated. 10. Stockton- Still can run the pg even at 40.Lost a step on D but is the consumate pg. Why is everyone so quick to put Kidd ahead of Payton because he made it to the finals. In the west Kidd's team was never higher than a 5th seed and made it past the 1st rd once.
1. Kidd 2. Francis 3. Davis 4. Payton 5. Bibby 6. Nash 7. Miller 8. Cassell 9. Stockton 10. Marbury- Selfish!
These guys are all so good... it changes by the day as to who I prefer. Right now, here's what I can think of: 1. Payton 2. Bibby 3. Kidd 4. Francis 5. Nash 6. Davis 7. Marbury 8. Miller 9. Cassell 10. Parker
Seems like everyone in this BBS has something against Marbury huh? Sure, he's no John Stockton or Jason Kidd at passing. But can someone tell me how's he's able to average 8.2 throughout his career, if he's nearly as selfish as many people say he is?
You guys were kidding about Tony Parker right? As a 19-yr old, he's good. As an NBA point, he's below average.
1. Jason Kidd *best pg in da game...hands down. 2. Gary Payton *da Glove...enough said 3. Baron Davis *dood can ball 4. Franchise *without the migraines & injuries, he's #2 5. Dre Miller *old school guard, runs the team very efficiently 6. Mike Bibby *West Conference Finals...played like best pg in da west 7. Tony Parker *game is light years ahead of his age 8. Steve Nash *erractic, but very exciting 9. Stephon Marbury *would go higher, but ..... 10. John Stockton *as much as I hate the Jazz, he's still one of da best
1. Jason Kidd he led his team to the NBA finals before they were blown out and can really pass. 2. Steve Francis hes in my mind the best mixture of a point guard that can score and dish and hes a rocket. 3. Mike Bibby he showed in the NBA playoffs he could step up. 4. Gary Payton he still manages to bring a crapy team to playoff contention every year. 5. Baron Davis he can flat out score and plays harder than any point guard in the league. 6. Andre Miller You look at what Kidd did with his team well in a couple of years Andre Miller will be able to turn around the Cavs. 7. Stephon Marbury He is selfish but good and Is the best scoring point guard. 8. Steve Nash you have to give him credit for scoring over 10 points a night well dishing it out to Nowitsky and the rest of the mavs. 9. Sam Cassel he is past his prime and can still play as the second best on his team. 10. Derek Fisher He has the hardest job of all the point guards distributing the ball b/t Shaq and Kobe
1. Kidd- could've been MVP last year. 2. Payton- better scorer than Kidd, close behind. 3. Francis- could be #1 next year but still hasn't reached all his potential 4. Miller- 2nd best pure PG to Kidd, can score also. 5. Davis- proved himself in playoffs, needs to keep improving 6. Bibby- stepped up big time in the playoffs, runs team well. 7. Nash- great shooter. 8. Cassell- still a great PG. 9. Brandon- when healthy a very solid shooter and passer. 10. Marbury- great scorer but selfish, not a real winner.
1) Andre Miller 2) Baron Davis 3) Jason Kidd 4) John Stockton 5) Mike Bibby 6) Gary Payton 7) Terrell Brandon 8) Stephon Marbury 9) Jamaal Tinsley 10) Steve Nash Just given the stats from last year... this is how I see things break down. Steve Francis is injury prone, and barely played last year, and call me a homer, but I think he can crack the top 8 this upcoming season. I'm sure a salient frontcourt will do wonders for his asst/to ratio.... and, call me a sucker, but I trust Rudy's umpteenth commentary about how we're going to run more this year. If it really happens, with Steve's strength and the focus he draws from the defense, he should be able to get double digit assists this year. If that happens... he'll be one of the top 3 point guards. But, he of course has to be able to stay on the floor. If Steve shakes off the injury bug, he can be on the upward curve of where he was 2 years ago, heading towards that Baron Davis type point guard and helping his team in every category. With Steve Francis' problems, Baron Davis seems to be the only young'un pulling off the synthesis of a distributor that can score. Good luck to you Steve.
achebe, why is terrell brandon in your list? he was hurt most of last season so i guess he is also injury prone. you may not like steve at all, which is obvious, but not putting him in the top 10 atleast is a joke.
Francis should goes higher than Davis b/c baron is not a good shooter!! Steve Nash is a 49% shooter, and that means something.
Yeah my excuse for not having Francis on the list was after the fact so that people wouldn't flame me... I actually did this off of assists and asst/to ratio at first, and then added in what I thought a player's scoring ability added to that mix. Brandon is certainly injury prone. But the fact that I couldn't get Francis in there to begin with was weird... so I added the disclaimer about injuries, silly me. Francis has the potential to be a Baron Davis type. I'm not sure if he sees the floor like Baron, or can pass like Baron, but that probably has a bunch to do w/ their teammates. The weaknesses of the Rockets puts Mobley, Mooch and Francis in the boring basketball mode... and boring basketball mode seems as if it would cut down Francis' potential assists by perhaps 2-2.5 assists per game. Maybe his new teammates will encourage Rudy to build a coherent system around the team's strengths (but not just strengths! I think I actually watched a Lifetime movie last year rather than a friggin' Houston iSockets game! whoa!).
btw, of course asst/to ratio isn't everything. If a player can score, he'll get more tos by definition of him threatening to score. I will add that I'm still haunted by Mobley's comment "with someone other than Steve Francis running the point guard duties... it's over". It's like Mobley doesn't even think of Francis as one of the top ten points... weird.
