I have never heard mention of that nickname for Tyrone Hill. Who uses it? I can't imagine television announcers or anchors saying that during a broadcast.

Kenny "the jet" Smith---the only player to get his nickname after retiring.

I still can't bring myself to call Kenny, "the jet".

What the hell is that reference too anyway? Kenny never stuck me as someone that was "fast on the court." Who gave him that nickname? Heck he probably named himself that. Too Funny! And yeah, getting his nickname AFTER retiring? LOL

This is a quote from Kenny Smith's basketball camp web page:
"Kenny Smith known for his exceptional quickness, blazing speed and deadeye pull-up jumper"

    :D

    Riiiiiiiiightttttt!

Now, by no means was Kenny a sloth on the court but he sure wasn't a burner either! I always thought his quickness and speed were pretty much average! If he was so quick how come he could never blow by people and drive down the lane versus settling for jumpshots!

"deadeye pull-up jumper"....Game 1 '95 NBA Finals against Orlando, end of regulation....that is my memory of Kenny Smith. :D

I am under the impression that Kenny Smith got his nicknmae before he entered the league, it wasn't used much while he played, but re-emerged with his commentary job. He was called the Jet because he was fast on the run. Not that he had a quick first step, but that he could out-sprint just about anybody.

I could picture Barkley reading that cracking up and thinking; "what nickname would represent this exceptional quickness and cause the most on air embarrassment"

    That's awesome!
So he got the nickname in college when he was considered one of the more "quick" players in the NCAA.

Then when he got into the NBA his "quickness" was average so the name was put to rest.

Now that he is in commentating he can out run Barkley and Erne(sp?) Johnson so he got his nickname back. CLASSIC! LOL

    WAY TO GO KENNY! :D

I sort of thought he was "The Jet" because of his speed in getting out of the way instead of taking the charge on D.

I think KG's more prevalent nick is Da Kid.

And its Aristotle. Shaq is a moron for giving himself that nickname. He has no Aristotle-like qualities.

Kenny "the Tornado" Smith. Someone on TNT laid this moniker on him during one broadcast for the ugly rotation of the ball on his jumpshots.
