Link Wray died the other day, at age 76. I put a little aside about his passing in an article I filed earlier this morning, it's not up yet, so I thought I'd start a thread here as I've been listening to his stuff non-stop for the last day and a half.

I used to rock out to Link's stuff on Robert Gordon albums when I was growing up. I literally combed my hair to a picture of Robert/Link when I was in high school, pretty strange for a midwestern kid in 1996-1998, but the pompadour was worth it.

After much haggling, I finally got a chance to see the man in early 2002. Easily the loudest concert I've ever been to or worked. Unyieldingly loud, potent, and rockin'. Amazing f!cking music.

Everyone here really needs to check his stuff out, Rhino has a lot of sensibly-priced rock on disc from Link.

Link Wray is the guy most widely credited for inventing the power chord.

That is too bad. He was a pioneer. His music just had that feel that kind of 'bad-ass' feel to it. He was awesome. I would like rumble to be played every time I walk into a room as kind of my theme song.
