I am extremely intrigued by both Landry and Scola. So, here is my thought. Why not run them out there together at the forward spots with Yao in the middle and see what happens. I guess I'm wondering if Landry can play the 3 for a few minutes a game. I like the form on his jumper and he is extremely athletic, I think he could defend 3s. I'd like to see what we would look like with them out there together.
though you make a good point, and yes it would be a good idea, but why show all your cards at once? not only by having a strong starting 5, you MUST have a strong bench. have we not talked about this all year. You can't have a bunch of mike james and chuck hayes on your bench. though i like scola in the line up i would rather have chuck out there for defensive purposes. so to sum this up, i would rather have this explosive players come off the bench to give us those points when t-mac and yao sit on the bench.
I've been wandering if he can play the three myself. If he can, his value will go through the roof. I'm not even sure he needs to be able to penetrate. His jumper and the ability (if he has it) to post up smaller threes could be tremendous for this team. I really think it has to do with his ability to move his feet and stay in front of threes.
Two questions (asked before, never answered): Can C-Lan develop into an NBA 3, or at least 3/4 and Is Landry II a prospect?
This is what I have been saying all along. Scola, Yao, Landry as our front line. Guess what? Teams cannot double team Yao anymore. Scola and Landry would make them pay big time. Put T-Mac out there at the SG and run Alston at the point and that's a really good team. Only thing we could do is get a better pt guard. Brooks has been sucking so we are really weak at the pt guard position. What we thought would be our strength at the beginning of the season has become our achilles heel. I shudder to think what would happen to us if Alston went out with an injury. Who we putting in? Brooks. Yikes!
While Landry maybe quick for a 4, as a 3 he'll get abused by guys like Josh Howard, S. Jackson, Manu Ginobili etc. So you can play him at 3 occasionally but I don't think it'll work on a regular basis, not in the playoff for sure. And why do we need Landry to play the 3 anyway? We already have Battier and Wells. And we don't need Landry to dribble the ball, shoot the 3's like Dirk. If anything, we need him to improve on rebound and defense.
I think he could probably defend the 3s dribbling isn't that good. But he would be a foul machine against the 3s of the dribble. I'm not going to say landry can't shoot from the outside, but seing as he's been playing with his back to the basket his entire laugh, i don't the the nba is the place to start experimenting with ability to consistently knock down the deep ball.. What i do like though, is yao is out, scola and landry in together... ...................... i am a chuckwagon fan, but i'm also a rockets fan. His time in houston may be done. Landry gives us the same energy, and hustle and with the addition of the ability to put the ball in the basket and about 4 more inches in height..
We'd be lax on defense which has been the Rockets achilles heel as of late. The offense has improved, but the turnovers and defensive lapses are still there. It'd be essential to have Battier out there in the starting 5 unless you want to go with a big lineup and have T-Mac run the point, Battier at 2, Landry at 3, Scola 4, and Yao 5. You'd have 3 players with 6'8 height, one at 6'9, and last one at 7'6. Probably the biggest starting 5 in the NBA if you do this though. All that length and size will definitely clog up the paint and would probably make running a zone pretty damn successful to make up for the lack of perimeter defensive presence. It'll definitely be tough to have people drive and dish with all that size and arm wing span to deflect kick out passes from slashing PGs. That said it might be good to try but I think its doubtful it'll work out on the court. Plus you lose some depth from the bench and have Hayes subbing in the game over Landry if you do this, and the offense goes back to 4 on 5 with the potential lead you'd build up by going with the above starting 5 which isn't assured to work in the first place.
The speed difference between SFs and PFs is great. I don't see Landry being able to stay in front of 80% of the SF in the league. Maybe we could trade Battier so Landry could at least be quicker than one opposing SF?
Oh give me a break. Have you seen Landry's move his feet? He's probably just as quick or quicker than Battier.
It might be interesting against really big frontlines, but in most cases it probably wouldn't work well.
So, your theory is that because he played 1-on-1 with his brother that he must have great handles? Even the worst ballhandlers in the league played 1-on-1 growing up. Your evidence doesn't support that Landry has great handles.
quickness on D and ball handling would be an issue. he would probably kill on the post, but he couldn't take anyone off the dribble to get to the hoop. overall, too slow of a team.
