Remember last summer at this time when we were all salivating over a line-up that would eventually start. PG – Steve Francis 6’3” SG – Cuttino Mobley 6’4” SF – Bostjan Nachbar 6’10” PF – Eddie Griffin 6’11” C – Yao Ming 7’5” Well it looks like there is a good chance that this could very well be our opening day line-up. - Remember when Eddie was going to be the next great power forward in the west? All he needed was a couple of years to beef up and get used to the NBA. Guess what? It’s been a couple of years so we better hope he is ready. - Remember this time last year when we couldn’t wait to see Boki play in a real NBA game after he reportedly lit up Steve Francis in a long distance game of horse? Remember Rudy T saying that Boki was really this years #1 pick. - Remember watching Yao Ming play in the World Basketball Championships last summer and thinking how great it will be when he actually has a real NBA point guard like Steve Francis throwing the ball into him. - Remember how Eddie, Yao and Cato were going to throw one long block party and no one would ever be able to score on us inside again. - Remember how Les said that this was the greatest collection of talent assembled since the Showtime Lakers of the 80’s Now imagine that we are just as excited about that line today as we were last summer. Add Eric Piatkowski as a back up guard, a healthy MoT and the new and improved Kelvin Cato and we have our 8 man rotation. Here’s to optimism.
Talk about CRAZY! The Rockets have this potential starting line-up and they are 12mil over the cap. DO WHAT???
Come on now! Your losing sight of what this thread is all about. This is the line-up of the future...today. There's no Rice in the future.
Nachbar will be the next Dirk Nowitzki! At the very worst, Peja Stojakovic! Here's to the future...today! GO BOKI!!! And now, back to reality...
kinda good we will be underestimating the Rockets this year. Our expectations are low so they may actually surprise us. October! please hurry along! I'm bored without NBA basketball.
What we really need is a "Primal scream" thread to let loose of all of our anger and frustrations with management and the lack to deliver the promised off season "BIG SPLASH." Not that our lineup sucks, its actually pretty good and I do have a lot of optimism...........for the FUTURE though. But every team is making moves to get better now and the Rockets are NOT one of them. "Pretty good" is not going to be enough unfortunately this season. I just hope CD and Les realize this before its too late.
tigereye, dude your one of my favorite posters on this board...but you have to get into the spirit of the thread. This is the most talented team since the Showtime Lakers. Honestly though. Steve, Cat and Yao are all solid. Eddie and Boki can still turn into solid players. Cato gives us a outstanding defensive rebounding reserve center. Mo gives us a very good offensive forward off of the bench and Pike gives us what is probably the best pure shooter we have ever had that is not past his prime. I think CD and JVG may want to see how Boki looks the first couple of months to determing what they want to go after with Rices expiring contract. In any event NBA finals here we come!
Hey thanks for the props. I really appreciate it! I just want to clarify my position. I am optimistic about this team's future, especially with JVG as our coach now. He will be perfect for this young and talented team. However, I am just feeling a little left out like a lot of other Rocket fans probably feel right now. Every other team is making moves and WOULD really love to see my beloved Rockets make one too. For those fans, a "primal scream" thread could be used to help alleviate tension. (now I feel like I'm a traffic reporter saying this...hehe) If they DONT make a move, I'll be okay with this team and you WONT see me calling for CD's head. But if they do make the RIGHT move, I'll just be a little more optimistic about the upcoming season. But all in all, I'm in the optimistic mode this thread promotes.
Well he has nothing to do with assembling the team. He's on the business side of things and does a damn good job at that. He's the VP of Marketing, so no need to vent at him at all.
Well, the Rockets are true underdogs. Lets hope they can battle it out and surprise some people. I don't have a sense of doom, but I don't exactly feel optimistic either.... I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
And they also have a true underdog coach. Remember 98', JVG's head was being called for by the NY media and he took the 8 seed Knicks all the way to the Finals. He even had the "Gah-den" faithful chanting "Jeff Van Gun-Dy" That was truly a great moment in Knicks history. And he will bring that same firey underdog spirit with him to the Rockets. And good thing are sure to follow.
