You guys are undervaluing Lin, just a little bit. His expiring has no value to teams that want to dump salary, especially for 2015?
Judging from the hate on this board for this guy, we should give away 2 first round and trade him for a bag of chips. It it off season or are we heading to playoff? /thread
The value of an expiring contract to a team is the ability to unload more salary. That value isn't really there in the summer if you're looking to add good players or create cap space.
Just to be honest with ourself, the hate on this thread is unbearable To be fair with Lin, I think he's worth for first round pick (beyond the top 10 picks perhaps)
Whats the deal with Sergio Llull? If we make a big sacrifice to get rid of Lin can we pull Sergio over? I dont remember what his contract details were.
TDan seems comfortable out there, making quick passes, shots and other than being on the light side, pretty quick on defense. Kid seems poise.
Easy there. As much as Lin is worthless on the trade market right now, 1st round picks are at an all-time premium. Even low ones because the starting salary is only slightly higher than 2nd rounders(Rockets pick likely start around 900K aka Parsons contract money). And there are plenty of teams with capspace and no one worth spending the money on. I think the Rockets will find a lot of takers if they trade Lin+2014 1st for capspace. Whether they'll do that, of course, depends on Melo and the Knicks.
If Melo wants Houston and the Knicks won't agree to S&T, you'll be reading a lot more of these over the next few months. Otherwise, you're right. No benefit to the Rockets trading him just for the sake of trading him.
He has to clear waivers first, but even then waiving him still keeps the cap hit because he has a guaranteed contract.
Llull's issue has been that there was never a good time. The Rockets have either been trying to clear capspace or sign Dwight Howard with said capspace. And Llull likes his situation in Europe. I don't see the Rockets bringing in Llull ever with capspace. I see him more as a MLE signing. Something along the lines of a Scola-type contract.
Edit: Sorry...wrong thread No way you're getting a pick for Lin with 15 million owed. More like give up a pick to dump his contract.
Lakers will probably at least wait first to see what pick they land in the lottery. If it's a top 4 pick, assuming Jabari declares, Lakers still could select Dante Exum which gives them their PG. D'Antoni only has 1 year left on his contract as well. There wouldn't be a rush to get Lin and they can just wait till after next season, when he becomes a free agent.
He has negative negative negative value Definitely one of the worst contracts in the league and Lin is easily top 5 "difficult to move"
Milwaukee already tried that with Yi. A bigger market would be more ideal to maximize his marketability.
